1-2 hard up and downshifts shifts and it has had to search for a gear on acceleration.

Re: It's Baaack....Rough Downshifting V6 Transmission

***UPDATE***

Got my Jeep back from the dealership today...

I had the steering column control reflash recall performed, a synthetic oil change, tire rotation, and most importantly...the latest reflash performed specifically for the rough 2nd to 1st down shift. So far so good coming home from the dealership...downshifts shifts were smooth as butter. Fingers crossed the tranny stays smooth this time!

The only hiccup, I was charged for the tire rotation (something the dealership should have done back when I had all four wheels balanced 3 weeks ago), so when I sent the work receipts to Chrysler Customer Care (as they requested), I brought up that issue as well because when I was awarded for my troubles two free oil synthetic oil changes per year for 5 years, the rep told me tire rotation was also included. As for this latest rental, I was told I was going to be reimbursed again...so I'm assuming I'll get reimbursed for the tire rotation as well.

Oh yeah...guess what my rental was? A 2015 Chrysler 200c with less than 5000 miles on it (dirty inside, and smelling like smoke). This one had a V6, 8.4AN, leather, and a couple other options. What I liked very much that it had was an electric parking brake switch...SOMETHING THE 2014-15 GC SHOULD HAVE! As for the 200c itself, I was not impressed. Sure the new 200 is a MUCH better car than the older 200's I've driven as loaners, and the car had good pick-up because of the V6, but IMO the new 2015 200c is sub-par compared to a Toyota or a Honda. First off, the Seats are TERRIBLE...like an old worn out lounge chair...way too soft, and hardly any side bolsters. Case in point that this is still an old ladies car. What surprised me as well was how heavy the steering was...much heavier than the WK2 GC if you can believe that. Also, the visibility out the back window is absolutely terrible as well. Not only does it give you very limited visibility, but the glass distorts big time. Other than that, the car was OK, not too rough over the bumps, and didn't roll too bad in the curves, but I was definitely reminded on how much I hate driving FWD vehicles.

You never told us you wrote for Consumer Reports.

I hope your trans stays fixed this time. It would make 2015 a "Happy New Year".

Well, it's been 600 miles since the install of the new valve body and still shifting smoothly. The only issue is the hesitation during hard accelerating remains. Strangely enough, it happens when the transmission is up to operating temperature. When it's cold, there is no hesitation......?

Re: It's Baaack....Rough Downshifting V6 Transmission

Had the Dec 9 (released) update done on my V6 8 speed trans today and I'm please to say the difference is like night and day. Shifting is much smoother now, and in 20km of stop start driving I was only able to produce a single rough shift, and that was after a hard acceleration followed by lifting off the pedal within 100m. I noticed at some stops it did not change to first at all and when it did, the shift was imperceptible. Taking off again in second did not feel unusual in terms of performance.

Hope it stays this way because it was the crappy shifting was the only thing I didn't like about this car!

Credit to Jeep Osborne Park for friendly professional service while I waited, done inside the quoted timeframe while I enjoyed Cpt. Smith polishing off yet another 3-figure score, nice

Cheers, Simon

I know this is a Jeep site but I am having similar problems with my '14 Ram 3.6. I had the latest flash done which cured the 2-1 downshift problem. My remaining issue is that on any grade, no matter how slight, the transmission will delay the upshift going either from 2-3 or 3-4 until the truck is again on a level road. This delay sometimes lasts a couple tenths of a mile if I keep the same pressure on the throttle. At that point the engine is turning at 4 - 5000 rpms and the truck could be up to 80 mph if I let it. The upshifts are smooth and quick on any level road under normal throttle, or even under hard standing start acceleration the transmission shifts fine. I live in Pittsburgh so with our many hills, I experience the delayed upshifts many times. The dealer has ordered me a new valve body but I'm not so sure that will fix the upshift delay problem.
Is this a common problem on the GC 3.6 upshifts or do I have an abnormal transmission issue?

Re: It's Baaack....Rough Downshifting V6 Transmission

I have a 2015 v6 GC overland 4x2 and I'm definitely experiencing shifting issues. I only have 800 miles on it and it seems to lunge forward whenever I'm accelerating in the lower gears and letting go of the gas pedal.

I'm assuming my car was manufactured sometime between July 2014 and October 2014 since I also need to get my "eco" default TSB completed so that my preference is saved whenever I turn off the car.

I see multiple TSBs for the transmission shifting. If I schedule an appointment and explain my issue to the jeep dealer, will they perform the correct ones? Or should I assume multiple appointments if the issue doesn't get fixed?

I feel like I'm also noticing it a lot more because i'm irritated by it. I'm in TX and it's about 30-45 deg if that has anything to do with it.

Re: It's Baaack....Rough Downshifting V6 Transmission

I too just had the latest and greatest trans flash done, I have to say it seems to be shifting much better now, still had some rough shifts and clunks but nowhere near as bad as before, even the problem I had with really hard shifting 1-2 and 2-3 when the trans was cold seems to have gone away. It's been only one day, but hopefully this fixes it for good.

Re: It's Baaack....Rough Downshifting V6 Transmission

Today at 27,000 miles I had normal service done at the dealership and asked for the December TSB trans flash to be done. All previous had been done. Up till today I have not been dis-satisfied with the 8 speed except the constant downshifitng (annoying) AND the rough 2 to 1st upon coming to a stop. So out the door I go, flash was done & service mgr.says "it will take awhile" to get used to your driving? So YES, the downshifting seems to be less frequent when letting off the gas pedal AND at all stops the trans stays in 2nd gear until you completely stop; then it shifts into 1st gear, very nice Probably 40 stops or more the rest of the day and it was consistent, 2nd gear until completely stopped. I cannot determine if it has changed the upshifting yet, will report back in a few days. Hope this flash is permanent! Dave

Re: It's Baaack....Rough Downshifting V6 Transmission

Question:
Especially in ECO mode (2014 Limited) when I want to accelerate or pass somebody quickly the tranny gears down from 7 or 8 to 3rd, rpm all the way up, it feels like pure terror, is that what you guys experience as well?
I don't think this is a mechanical transmission issue but a software issue but I'm not sure.

I had the same issue when I first got my Jeep, it was like a dead spot when you tried to accelerate, example cruising at 20-30 mph then trying to merge onto the highway and I would give it gas the Jeep would hesitate for a second or two then rev up and take off, very scary when trying to merge. The next to last update I got fixed that, if you haven't already, definitely get the updates done, it's like night and day. I am very happy with the latest update it's been a week and the trans is near perfect now.
