It's Baaack....Rough Downshifting V6 Transmission

Yep...my rough downshifting transmission is back after getting all the latest reflashes at the dealership. if anything, it worse now...as in more frequent...a rough downshift into first coming to a stop. More proof, at least to me, that this is something mechanical...not software related.

To be exact, I feel the rough/hard downshift from 2nd into 1st coming to a stop from a crawl after the transmission has warmed up...especially in heavy stop & go traffic. The reflashes only lasted a couple weeks. Figures..I just renewed my SiriusXM for 6 more months.

So now I'm back to square one, saddled with a $45,000 vehicle with 9,500 miles on it...and a crappy shifting transmission. Looks like I'll be calling Chrysler Customer Care this Monday to report the issue, and we'll take it from there, and I'll be sure to post what happens.

I'm just thankful I never forked over the $2000 for an extended warranty because not only will I be trading this vehicle in before the standard warranty expires, but this will also be my last Chrysler product. That's it...tired of this shit.

The new 2015 Ford F-150 is looking better everyday.

Re: It's Baaack....Rough Downshifting V6 Transmission

While the new F150 sure looks good, are you sure you want to get involved with something newly designed once again. In your shoes I'd be looking for something tried and tested.

You said the bad shifting came back after getting the latest software updates. Wouldn't that point towards a software, rather than a mechanical issue?

yep I guess it's time for you to dump that gc. be careful with 1st year runs, and also that all new aluminum body. I've heard insurance companies/body shops still don't know how to price this out.

Thanks for the heads up on this new TSB...I even removed you from my ignore list just for helping.

The TSB number for anyone that wants to know is...

21-003-14 REV. A

"Vehicles equipped with a 3.6L engine

Software to correct a harsh bump feel during a 2-1 downshift."

http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_2100314a.pdf

Confidence is not high that this reflash will fix my transmission (I still think it's the valve body itself), but I will mention it to the Chrysler Customer Care representative on Monday.

For my troubles so far, Chrysler has reimbursed the $35.00 rental charge for my last trip to the dealership (no loaners given), and credited to my VIN number two free synthetic oil changes per year for 5 years...a nice gesture, but I was hoping for some sort of extended warranty instead.

So to kill as many birds with one stone, my next appointment at the dealership will include:

1) 21-003-14 REV. A reflash

2) P64 / 14V-636 SCCM recall (just received this in the mail last week)

3) Oil Change & rotation of tires - I thought they rotated the wheels on my last visit since they rebalanced all four, but they did not

I just noticed it and came here to post about it. I'm really hoping it fixes the problem because that damn bump every single time I come to a stop is ridiculous.

Hopefully it resolves your issue for good. I could be wrong but it seems to me since that last update made it go away for a while it probably is a software issue. I think if it was a valve body or other mechanical issue it would probably not change with computer resets. The good thing is that Chrysler seems to know that this is an issue since they keep making changes to the software to correct this issue. So maybe they finally got it nailed down and this will take care of it for good and you can like your Jeep again.

Re: It's Baaack....Rough Downshifting V6 Transmission

Hmmm... mine's still shifting fine after the flash I had done back in early September. If it starts acting up again then I'll have to check into this revised TSB.

Re: It's Baaack....Rough Downshifting V6 Transmission

It would appear to be for all 3.6L gas 2014 WK2's. There's no mention of build dates like you usually find.

Re: It's Baaack....Rough Downshifting V6 Transmission

I have experienced all of the shifting problems mentioned in this post to include my check engine light coming on for a day. I have had the problem since day one and I now have 4300 mi on the odometer. My first attempt to rectify the problem led to a song and dance by the dealer about learning software and refusal to do a flash. My second attempt, at another dealership, was a no fuss decision to replace the valve body. It has only been 3 days, but the transmission shifts like butter. No more hesitation during acceleration, no more harsh shift from 2nd to 3rd when cold, no more low speed "bump" when down shifting to 1st at a stop. Now I really enjoy driving this $49k vehicle.

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about! You are the second person I've read on this site that's had the valve body replaced, and your transmission now shifts like butter...and with no hesitation during acceleration. Even if this reflash takes care of my rough downshift from 2nd to 1st, I still have the hesitation issue to contend with. Just this morning when merging onto the highway at WOT, there was a absolute dead spot of what semed like 2 to 3 seconds before the tranny finally kicked down and the vehicle started accerating.

**UPDATE**

I contacted Chrysler Customer Care this Monday morning (12/8), the case number is 26080074, and the appointment at the dealership for initial diagnosis is 12/26.
