Re: It's Official, I Regret My Purchase

It's hard for me to say that I regret my purchase, because I learned that I will never buy a Chrysler product again. I had many problems with my Overland from day one. The latest occurred after it spent two weeks at the dealership and I drove home after picking it up, the ESC malfunction light came on. That was when I was confident it was time to get rid of my Overland. Also, the fact that I could not get great service, even though I purchased a $40k vehicle, was beyond me. I shouldn't have to drive to numerous dealerships in order to get a loaner vehicle, but I digress.

My biggest issue with this Jeep was the high pitch noise that cycles when the AC is on. Chrysler admitted a design flaw but as of today has no fix for it.

Today was the day that I parted with my Overland after only 6 months of ownership. It has so much potential but I am afraid it will never get there as long as it is a Chrysler vehicle. I was able to trade it in for $33,500, (V6 Overland with running boards, 4600 miles) and am so relieved to be done with it.

So what was the final result of all the attempted repairs? Has the fix held up to driving and more personal testing?

Re: It's Official, I Regret My Purchase

To be honest I only have a few hundred miles on the car since I got it back. I drove it to Newark airport and just got back from a 3 week business trip in Europe. Some observations so far:

1- The flipper window still is not fixed. I noticed some rattling in the tailgate on my way to the airport. I opened the flipper window and the left strut/piston connecting the glass to the tailgate broke off. I am not thrilled about this because it means at least one more trip in.

2- I have not been able to produce the Downshift shudder, which is good. But I also have not been driving in the typical range where it would happen.

3- On the highway I notice that the car downshifts in a harsh manner. It is noticeably different than before. I need to explore this more. It just feels like a violent change in gears. It's not like it is unable to find gears like before. It just clunks and bucks.

4- The odd driveline behaviors were non-existent for the first 250 miles or so but have slowly made there way back into the driving dynamics. When starting from a stop it still feels like the front wheels engage abruptly and after the fact. This happens under light acceleration so I do not believe traction is an issue. I also feel clunky shifts under light acceleration.

I will deal with this when I get settled back in at work.

I have the car back but it's still not 100%. Very disappointing...

Re: It's Official, I Regret My Purchase

Saratoga Chrysler Jeep is the dealer. I also still do not have my paperwork from the three week stint in the shop where they have told me they did all of the repair attempts to fix the shudder. I'll bug them for this too.

That is ridiculous. So sorry to hear of your dealer woes. That just makes a bad situation intolerable.

Re: It's Official, I Regret My Purchase

This morning I was able to produce a shudder during a merge acceleration. The car downshifted and could not find the gear. I a not surprised because the shafts did not seem like a logical fix. I am also noticing uneven engagement of the drivetrain from a stop sign. It feels like the front wheels kick in abruptly. The car also shimmies front to back when you take your foot off the gas and coast at 40mph or less.

The car is going back in tomorrow. At this point I am looking to have a candid discussion about getting rid of this car.

FWIW, take my advice and push extra hard to do just that. I tried living with all of the "fixes" and none have worked. Everybody wants to help and cure the root cause, but no one is able to.
There is something inherently wrong and it's unlikely to be fixed anytime soon. "Technical support" for these complex problems is non-existent and the best cure is a junkyard crusher.

#3 & #7 for me. I can live with them right now though, have an SRT8 on order so ill get by until Sept.

Any lemon law, regardless of state, refers to the repeated "break-down" or "unrepairable" issue. That is to say, in order for the lemon law to be relevant, you would have to have the same issue, e.g. bad transmission, repeatedly fail. It does not protect you against multiple different issues. Sorry for the bad news...
