Jeep 5.7 maintenance schedule, spark plug replacement

Hi guys, really interested in buying a new overland with the 5.7. I downloaded the jeep ipod app and it gave a ton of info. One was the maintenance schedule. Anyone know why with the 5.7L engine at 32000, 64000, and 96000 miles you need to replace the spark plugs? The V6 is due for replacement of spark plugs at 96000 miles only. Is this typical of the Hemi? and how much $ to expect at the dealer? Thanks for any feedback.

Yes it is typical for the hemi's and each time you have 16 plugs to change. I would expect it to cost a couple hundred dollars at the dealer. I don't keep a car long enough to change the plugs, lol

Old topic, the 5.7L uses Copper Core spark plugs. The 3.6L uses Iridium. Copper plugs require changing every 32,000 miles. Rumor has an Iridium replacement on the horizon for the Hemi.

In theory you could replace the copper plugs in the Hemi with platinum or iridium plugs, but not all engines work well with those. With my Patriot the interval was 30K with the copper plugs, but I swapped them out every 25K and did notice a difference- they were easy enough to do on that thing it wasn't an issue. On the Hemi, that might be different- there is certainly less room in that engine bay.

You can have someone show you how to do it and be done in under an hour and for under 50 bucks. It's not that hard. Or there is the stealership method and you can drop a couple hundred.

Re: Jeep 5.7 maintenance schedule, spark plug replacement

The new head design hasn't allowed for all manufacturers to provide an Iridium plug.
