Jeep GC Diesel Transmission Issue??? Help!!!!

Hi all.

Not sure if anyone has had any experience with the following...

Our Jeep GC Diesel has been having dramas with its transmission (auto). If we are at traffic lights and go to take off, the Jeep will get 'stuck' in 1st gear and wont change up to 2nd - the engine will rev quite high. We are then forced to pull the car over, and put back into park, restart car and then it will be fine. Its done it probably 5 times in the last 6 weeks - annoying.

Anyone know of this or have a solution??

cheers

NT

Which trans ? Under warrenty ? First thought is a stuck shuttle valve. Normally the next thing would be to change the trans oil and filter & look for debris.

Hi thank for the reply.

Look - im assuming it has something to do with the transmission - it is a normal automatic transmission that the CRD WK2 Jeep Grand Cherokees have??

Yes, its under warranty - I have already had it back twice and they cannot find a fault code, and of course cannot replicate the issue....

Didnt know if anyone else out there has had a similar problem...???

Re: Jeep GC Diesel Transmission Issue??? Help!!!!

You are all looking for an electrical fault. Do not forget that mechanical faults like a stuck shuttle can occur also. The you shut the engine down, the trans looses pressure and everything moves to the default state.

If it were mine, I'd drop in a can of SeaFoam TransTune and see if it changes. If it still happens that is the time for triage - with no faults, drop the pan and take a look (& replace fluid and filter).

Since you have a CRD you must not be in the US or you are on the wrong forum. Which trans depends on the model year. How many miles on it ?

Re: Jeep GC Diesel Transmission Issue??? Help!!!!

Hi padgett. This is the right forum isnt it? wk2 Jeep GC? Anyway, its a 2011, and it is Australian, and has done approx 25,000kms (not miles). A work colleague of my wife also had the same thing occur with her same model Jeep. The transmission seems to think it has been put in sports mode...the Jeep dealer here has gone through it and cannot find a thing....frustrating. Amazes me that 2 people where i live have experienced this and no-one else on this forum in the world has...ha ha

If it is in sport mode.... hold the shifter to the plus side of position for a few seconds and I believe this clears. Have similar setup in the Durango and I believe I have done what you have done once before.

If it happens again, don't stop, don't pull over. Just shift into neutral and back to drive and see if it goes away. I used to have paddle shifters and no console shifter so I have accidentally leaned on it while driving.

Again, will check tomorrow morning. 10:31 pm here now.
