Re: Jeep in for warranty repair and this is what Chrysler gives me.....

One of the reasons I looked hard at an Audi Q5 is the service. This dealership will drive to your house in the morning and drop the loaner off / pick your car up for service. You don't even have to go to the dealership.

In the end the Jeep won me over because of the vehicle. I'll "put up" with the other stuff I'm less thrilled with.

Here's how I look at it: Of your overall percentage of experience with your vehicle, how much is with the dealership/loaner. 3-4 days a year is about 1%. So I'd rather have the vehicle I really like to drive and choose that for the 99% of my experience. It's why I will probably never buy a Lexus. Best service around, but soul-less polished turds driving down the road.

With that said, American car makers could gain some more market share with some high-level service

Relax DC... you're coming across as some kind of Jeep snob. Sure we all like our jeeps here, but Nissans are not POSs. All depends on your needs. Even Kias are getting pretty good these days.

Agreed I'd never drive a Versa but its probably better than anything else sitting on a chrysler lot these days, save the GC and Durango.

Re: Jeep in for warranty repair and this is what Chrysler gives me.....

If you guys have not filled out the Jeep survey you should do so. They ask all kinds of questions about the car. It took me 30 minutes to fill it out because it is very specific. But in the general comments section I let them have it about a loaner car program.

I traded in a 2006 Acura TL that I bought CPO for $25k. The Certified program guarantees you a loaner. A $25k car guaranteed me a loaner car. And a $45K car seems damn near impossible to get a loaner car.

Anyway, someone from Jeep called me to follow up on the survey. The first thing they did was thank me for my purchase. The second thing they did was tell me they agreed with my comments on loaner car programs. They said they hope to have something in place soon. I told them it would go a long way towards building owner loyalty. It makes it a lot less of a headache if something goes wrong with your car.

I am not sure if they were trying to placate me but I have never bought a car and had a dealer and the manufacturer so interested in my feedback. It seems like Chrysler is looking to make customers happy so it couldn't hurt if others reinforce this message. It doesn't seem like it would be too hard to have Chrysler 200's or 300's fleets available for customers. I don't think the type of car matters just as long as you can still get from point a to point b and don't need someone to pick you up and drop you off at the service center.

All of the luxury brands that everyone is stating BMW, Lexus, Mercedes....that offer nice loaners you are paying for them with the service prices. If you want these types of rentals then be prepared to pay $200+ for oil changes and 1K-2K for brakes.

Also $45K is not chump change, but it really isn't extraordinary prices these days. A fully load kia sorento is $38K now, some need get off their high horse that a $45K GC should give you luxury brand service.

Re: Jeep in for warranty repair and this is what Chrysler gives me.....

Everytime i bring my Jeep in for service I always get a enterprise rental car. Enterprise ALWAYS gives me a Chrysler product, whether it is a jeep dodge or chrysler. As long as you have an extended service contract you are entitled to a rental vehicle. I don't know if their policy states they have to provide you a rental under the B2B warranty.

I'm in general agreement with this. I have owned full-on luxury rides and received crappy rentals when overnight service was required. Now I own an aspiring luxe vehicle in the Overland and I expect I'll still get nondescript rentals if I get one at all. My points are 1) I don't really care, and 2) that I'd prefer Chrysler put their limited $$ resources into QA for the WK2. Once that is in place, they can focus on the broader customer experience, which (as has been noted) is a very expensive aspect of the brand image to deliver-- and that money has to come from somewhere. I'm glad they didn't raise the price of the vehicle to pay for me to have a better rental car when it breaks down. That logic would make no sense to me and would not be a long-term road map to success.

Others may disagree but I don't think it's realistic for a car company that just had one foot in the grave to suddenly be able to be on par with Lexus, BMW, MB, etc. in this department. If they were capable of delivering that type of 360 "ohmygod" experience, they wouldn't have been in trouble in the first place. As far as I'm concerned, it's a miracle that a company like this was able to turn out such a fine ride. I'm happy to give them a chance to succeed and I went into my MY1 purchase with eyes wide open. Not a fanboy, just sharing my personal .02.

I only need the rental vehicle for a few days to get me around until the work is done. Just give me something I can drive around in, I dont have to pay for and then I dont care what I get.

Re: Jeep in for warranty repair and this is what Chrysler gives me.....

My Jeep has been in the shop three times (since Nov 3) and I have rec'd three different loaners:

1) base model, Dodge Caliber
2) base model, Toyota Corolla
3) base model, Hyundai Elantra

It's due to go back in again if they ever call me back - ughhh...

Part of the "Dealerhsip Sell" is Jones for Life, you get free loaners with any service (if requested and available), free car washes whenever they are open, free oil changes & wiper blade replacement and a lifetime engine guarantee (if serviced at Jones). Pretty gimmicky but effective. I see many people in my area with a Jones Junction license plate frame. Not the reason I purchased from Jones btw. But I will leave that sore subject alone.

The dealership family consists of Hyundai, Toyota, Subaru, Nissan, Scion, Chrysler, Dodge & Jeep. So I expect to recieve one of these vehicles.

Here is my beef with the loaner situation...
I bought a 4x4 SUV for a few reasons namely because we can have bad winters in Maryland (like last night - 8" of snow & sleet in 6-hours) and my job doesn't shut-down or close.

Yes, I am happy that they give me a free car, they certainly do not have to. And, I do not expect to recieve a Limited Grand Cherokee in return. But I do expect a comprable vehicle, meaning AWD. I rather recieve an 2001 Tacoma or Subaru Outback then a 2011 Elantra.

If my car would have been in the shop yesterday, as planned, I would not have made it into work today. If I wasn't going into work I wouldn't need a loaner.

And, for comparison, whenever we have taken one of our Mercedes in for service we get a new Benz, usually a GLK or C-class. When I was considering trading in our 2005 C230 Sedan on a new ML350 they gave me a 2006 ML500 for 10-days to see if I liked it. I doubt this is the norm, they are just an exceptional dealerhsip.

I am not sure if American Automakers will ever get there.
