I park on the left side of my 2 car garage, so I have a piece of foam glued to the wall as a bumper for my door edge. I line up the side window with that as an aid for how far to drive in.

That sounds like a good method. I have seen people hang a tennis ball from the ceiling by a string and stop when the tennis ball contacts the windshield in front of them. I need to do something similar for my wife, she parks all over the place. Kind of a spaz. lol

For those who need to open door to reverse or etc and need seat belt off just buy a seat belt connection that just plugs in with out the strap on ebay.

I tested this the other night when taking the Grand down to our front gate which is 400 odd metres away from the house. (I had to do the garbage bin drop off).

In that exercise this is what I have to do with the shifter: (starting from the park area next to the house)

- Go from P to R (reverse down to the 'landing pad')
- Go from R to D (down the driveway)
- Go from D to P (exit and open first gate)
- Go from P to D (go through the first gate)
- Go from D to P (exit and close gate behind me - dogs escape otherwise)
- Go from P to D (continue on down the driveway and pull off into shoulder paddock area)
- Go from D to R (reverse further into shoulder area for greater turning circle)
- Go from R to D (pull into opposite shoulder paddock area)
- Go from D to R (straighten up and back onto driveway and reverse down to the road)

Unload bins and repeat some of the above (not the shoulders this time) until parked back up the top at the house.

My point in detailing this, is that in the 9 shift changes in less than 10 minutes (actually more because I didn't count the ones going back up), never once did I need to look at the shifter. Not a single time.

We also own an MY15 KL Cherokee with the Polystable shifter. If I was to make a choice between the WK2 shifter and the KL shifter then I would choose the WK2 shifter. If I could have the Monostable in my KL rather than what I have, that would be my choice.

So, you might not be able to understand but that doesn't make you correct. It just makes you unable to understand.
I think the way I typed it the first time was confusing. I think we agree, you said you didn't once need to look at what gear you were in. I don't ever look either other than the rare instance where I don't put it where I meant to.

We have a side load garage. My wife parks on the right side and lines her car up with mine as I'm usually home before her. Except when she doesn't and hits my Gladiator tool chest. Also the paint marks on the front right side of her bumper match the paint color of the garage door trim.

I'm not sure what I'm looking at. Is it that you can shift with the parking brake engaged but without pressing on the brake? I can't say that I've tried to do that.

That's just creepy. People can say what they want, there is something dangerously inelegant about this shifter design.

Re: Jeep recalling 1.1 million shifters

So you are shifting & it does not matter if the brake or Parking brake are being applied.

What speed are you traveling?

Re: Jeep recalling 1.1 million shifters

I wonder how may parking pawls this update will end up breaking. Hopefully none. Last night I was pulling into my spot and took my seatbelt off and opened the door to check where I was as the car was moving slowly, only for the vehicle to stop abruptly (despite the low speed - although I don't know what my speed was exactly) and make a noise while doing so, which scared me. Oh, right, I forgot about the update: it puts itself in park now!

Hopefully the engineers did extensive testing and that 1.2MPH speed leaves enough room for error where a couple times of this happening won't result in snapped pawls or damaged transmissions.
