There are times when off road at the low speeds which you would want to open the door that you would not be able to do so without unbuckling the seat belt. Frankly when I got the recall done there was no information given me about the modification as was described in the second recall notice.

Re: Jeep recalling 1.1 million shifters

@Ron-Indy shared in another thread that auto park is disabled in 4WD Low, so that may help with off roading

New '16 shifter - fit in a '14? New '16 shifter - fit in a '14?

Correct the handouts dealers r supposed to give, posted somewhere here, clearly state this....above 1.2mph OR 4lo OR seatbelt clicked, prevents Auto-Park engagement.

Right. Had the fix applied yesterday and specifically tested this with the service writer.

Re: Jeep recalling 1.1 million shifters

I guess this recall, if applied, will put a wrinkle into using automatic car washes.

Funny you say that, I had the shifter recall done yesterday and on the way home I stopped at my normal car wash. got out went to pay and saw the guys fighting with the jeep on the washer track. the jeep now of course throws it in park when they put it in neutral and get out. so now one of them needs to sit with it as it goes though the wash as they wont let customers do it. as others have pointed out you could buckle the seat belt behind you to trick it, maybe they will catch on to that at some point but for now they are riding them through. they weren't happy when I told them all GCs and other with that shifter will be that way.

Be nice if they put a temporary cancel of that feature in the uconnect that reset itself after a restart. just check a box and no issue while you need it that way.

Re: Jeep recalling 1.1 million shifters

Yep, I thought there might be an issue. I can understand the reasoning behind them issuing the recall, but for me it will cause more issues than it solves, as I always put it in park when leaving it, and never leave it running.

One thing I have noticed with the update is you can pull forward or back up as much as you want with the seat belt off and door open as long as you have your foot slightly on the brake. Doesn't help the neutral thing with car wash but buckle the seat belt for that I guess. With the belt buckled and keys in it, do the auto looks engage on a time or a certain rate of speed? If it thinks you are in there I would not want it to auto lock. I'm thinking it's speed though.

Re: Jeep recalling 1.1 million shifters

I believe auto lock activates when a certain speed is reached. There is a sensor in the passenger seat for the airbag, not sure if there is one on the driver side. If so and that is used, the seat belt work around would not work. I'll just request the patch not be installed and see what they say; I'm happy with it just the way it is and it gets turned back in 8 months. They can install it then.

It's a max speed...above 1.2 mph Auto-Lock does not engage no matter what also there is a 5sec window otherwise it won't engage...no sensor in driver seat, seatbelt clicked is the "switch"/criteria...
