AMEN. If it doesn't solve the D to R issue (like in a K turn maneuver) or makes hooking up a trailer annoying (door open with small moves) then the FEDs and FCA haven't solved the problem. Then its time to file more complaints.

Perhaps it should be for those who thanked Milous's post about the sticker!

Really!!!

You're all happy to have that permanently stuck to your dash!

We thanked him for his sense of humour 67H. In case you missed it, he was joking.

That people actually missed the humor is funny in its own right.

Re: Jeep recalling 1.1 million shifters

This is no different then the "Reverse Honk Feature" on Dodge Rams about 10 years ago.. People we backing up trucks with the door open and no seatbelts...slipping out on the ground and getting run over while still in gear....
What did they do? They made your truck honk incessantly in reverse if you had your door open with no seatbelt, to see what you may be doing. I avoided that update for years when it went in for service.
I personally don't have any problems with the shifter... It ain't perfect, but it certainly isn't recall status bad.......

With the stupid things car manufacturers do to make the lawyers happy already, that totally could have been real.

Having said that, there's an easy fix for those that have any sort of issue getting into park before exiting the vehicle:

If you put it into any gear other than Park, then open the door, the parking brake engages. If you need to move the vehicle with the door open, put it into park, open the door, then put it into gear to confirm to the system you mean to be in gear with the door open. That prevents the accidental shift to reverse and exit by the driver, but allows you to back up with the door open.

Neutral would always engage the parking brake when the door open.

If you attempt to turn the vehicle off without shifting to Park, the system will shift to Park automatically, then shut off.

That is what it's lacking - not "mechanical" per se, but tactical feedback to know that it's in park.

Slam it all the way to the top, and when it stops, you know you're in park.

Same as your windshield wipers - rotate the left stalk all the way back towards you, the stopped feeling tells you that you've returned the wipers back to off.

Pulled into a parking space this morning and pushed it all the way forward; it stopped at neutral. Pushed it again it stopped at reverse, pushed it a third time and it made it to park. Had to look each time as I am now forced to do. This gear selector is possessed!

Push it in a little further.

That has happened to me too. I think what may happen is if you push forward before you have fully pressed the button, the button push doesn't register. If I stare at it, it will do it right everytime.

I don't want tactical feedbacck - got enough of that in Viet Nam. Some tactile feedback would be nice though (sorry, I couldn't resist).

I think I will skip this fix though as I have opened the door while moving both to hook up trailers and a few times off road to make sure I'm missing large rocks or holes on the side of the vehicle. This "fix" would make those operations difficult, if not impossible.

The company will enhance warning chimes and alter the shift strategy, meaning alert messages will be displayed in case the driver door is opened while the engine is running. With the door open, the transmission will prevent the car from moving even if Park is not selected.
So the ding ding ding gets louder. Oh joy!!!

"modify the settings in the transmission so the vehicle won't move under certain conditions if it is in park."

Doh! And here I thought the issue was that some drivers couldn't TELL if they were in park.

Thanks NHTSA and FCA.
