...and what scares me is all the "flashing" going on....those PCM and TCM flashes make me nervous...I have resisted the latest SRT trans flash since I love my trans...argh....they r gonna eventually get their way with my trans.....

A. Reprogram the PCM / TCM / RFH / IPC Modules
NOTE: The wiTECH scan tool must be used to perform this recall. This procedure must be performed with the latest software release level. If the reprogramming flash for the PCM/TCM/RFH/IPC modules is aborted or interrupted, repeat the procedure.
SPECIAL NOTE: The four modules must be reprogramed in the following order:

1st - Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
2nd - Transmission Control Module (TCM)
3rd - Radio Frequency Hub (RFH)
4th - Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)

My 2014 GC Summit is an early(march 2013) build. Im current on all software on all modules and let me tell you there has been a lot of flashing, some modules 3 or 4 updates. Probably at least 20 of them. Sometimes things do get whacked out with flashes, seemingly unrelated module flashes can affect systems you would not think, there is far more chatter that goes on between the dozen or so modules than would appear, one of the techs admitted to me. The fix or what has worked for me, get current on all your flashes and if you got gremlins pull the battery cable for at least a half hour, and let everything come back up gracefully, or put another way reboot hour jeep like you would your computer. My early build currently has zero issues by following this. it takes about 2 minutes, pull it before bed hook up in morning, has fixed 3 seperate things over the first 2 years. Things the dealer shrugged their sholders on could not figure out and opened a star case on without a thought to try that.
Eventually someone will flash that recall when its in even if you tell them not to, it will be a lossing battle unless you avoid the dealer, which is hard when it comes to any type of warranty work. To me id rather just get it out of the way and put it behind me.

Agreed, just curious why they r only doing the 3.6 and 5.7 right now with the 3.0 and 6.4 coming Jul/Aug...could be volume or they need time for the TCM flash code but the first group covers both trans so whatever....

Good question, my guess is each one probably needs its own special software tweak and stamp of approval and wth the 3.6 and 5.7 being the vast majority maybe they are just trying to get them started as soon as is possible. I imagine they are getting insane pressure from all these parked rental fleets and dealer stock and every hour counts.

That is one good thing about that law to park the rentals and stop sales, no more dragging their feet for months and years the way they have been on recalls and parts availability issues. Hit em where the money is at, you watch how fast manufacturer whining about parts availability and every other excuse dries up now that it will hit the manufactures this way.

Right.... now that someone who is known dies due to the shifter design they all of a sudden push a software update that according to them wasn't coming out until next quarter (don't remember exact dates). That just tells me they're in a panic and need to release this "update" to try and save face with the public.

FCA is unbelievable!! I hope they get sued out the ass for this recent tragedy.

Maybe now they'll consider a physical update and not just a re-flash.

Just saying that this acceleration was announced well prior to Sunday.

Re: Jeep recalling 1.1 million shifters

Think I'll wait for some others to get this done for two reasons. Number 1, I want to see what it accomplishes and whether those who have had it performed are happy with the results. Number2, more importantly, I want my dealer to familiarize themselves with the procedure as so many modules have to be updated, and the chance of them screwing something else up is pretty high.

Re: Jeep recalling 1.1 million shifters

This is going to be a very big deal. Especially if the autopsy toxicology rules out drugs and/or alcohol as a contributing factor.
