Re: Jeep recalling 1.1 million shifters

Seems too coincidental that we have been awaiting FCA for months to see how they were going to address the fix. Then all of a sudden, this young star is killed and today, the TSB is issued. I bet Serge kick some ass and had them working round the clock to get this TSB out today.

Sorry...but some of u are being sensational....

The guy left the jeep in neutral...got out and it rolled down his driveway. This is driver fault...although tragic....it happens all the time with all types of vehicles. Our liberal media likes to sensationalize everything because most fall for it...see above.

What is the source of that information? I live in LA and haven't read any details about the position of the shifter at the time he left the vehicle.

I'd imagine the LAPD Incident Report is the only current source that would contain such details. So unless you can provide that from a reliable source, you're just guessing. Perhaps more reading might benefit you.

For the record I didn't read anyone that definitively stated that the shifter was the proximate cause of the accident. It's just information and not conclusive.

That date can be manipulated. All I'm saying is that all of a sudden, today, we see the TSB. You can't tell me that that isn't the least bit suspicious.

Re: Jeep recalling 1.1 million shifters

I'm curious to know why, they still insist on just a software update, despite upgrading the shifter entirely in newer models? Instead of another warning (mine already tells me I'm not in park), why aren't we provided with the proper upgraded shifter

Re: Jeep recalling 1.1 million shifters

I find this whole thing quite interesting. With my outdated 14' that I have had for 18+ months, I have NEVER had an issue with the vehicle not being in the desired gear. Did the feel take some getting used to? Yes! But it is all about pressure and feel...and I for one will not be doing anything to my shifter. Here is to outdated technology that pulls a 3.9 0-60 HAHA

There is nothing wrong with the gear selector. I've had my 15' for two years now and have never had a problem with the car not being in the desired gear. When changing gears I LOOK to make sure the car is in the right gear before I take my foot off the brake.

The way its written it says new software with auto park which will likely be more than just a warning. The new software will likely put the Jeep in park when it senses the certain situation and the driver doesnt for whstever reason. A more active vs passive bandaid. This is just my opinion reading into how it sounds the fix will be. Retrofitting a million plus vehicles with an entirely new shifter assembly would be insanely expensive and time consuming. They are a business if they can satisfy the NHTSA with a software babdaid for a fraction of the cost of a hardware solution then then that is what they will do.

Re: Jeep recalling 1.1 million shifters

The other 12 threads here and news reports I've read that last 2 days all say they found him pinned with the jeep in neutral.

Since u want to nit pick my simple post....I was reacting to the multiple sensationalized posts.

Re: Jeep recalling 1.1 million shifters

No sir. Not one report that directly says the vehicle was found in neutral. That's simply not a detail that would be released to the press. Not in LA or any other large market.
The CNN article I posted did say that the LAPD has not arrived at any definitive cause of this incident.
So, while not "nitpicking" your post per se, I think anyone who professes to know what gear they found the Jeep in is just speculating.
