Hyundai still has a 10/100000 mile drivetrain warranty. I understand that all manufacturers have lemons. What I am saying is that companies like Hyundai stand behind thier product with a outstanding warranty. To keep market share Chrysler needs to up the quality and then stand behind it. I like my JGC but it has had too many issues that it should not have had for a $45000+ vehicle. Some are still unresolved and I'm at 19000 miles.

When shopping online at a reseller mentioned from this it would not let me select the lifetime option if either diesel or 4x4 were selected. 7 year unlimited mileage was the highest term. As soon as I deselected either of those options or automatically defaulted to lifetime. I would really like to be wrong on this as I'd prefer to buy a 4x4 2014 summit.

How much is the lifetime warranty? $2000ish? I'm just guessing here but I would have to think that most people who buy the warranty don't incur $2000 in warranty work - Jeep wouldn't offer it if they lost money. So, why not bump the price by $1000 and give the warranty to everyone? I'm certain they'd sell more vehicles and probably still would come out ahead on warranties. Seems like a win-win to me.

You are correct...that is unexcusable for your dealer. Find another one if possible. But Im sure you can go to a hyundai forum and here the same thing.

Jeep has the 36/36 bumper to bumper warranty along with the 5 year 100K powertrain warranty. None of the others that you mentioned have that along with 5 year 100k roadside assistance in the 2013 models.

Re: Jeep warranty lagging competitors?

I went for the lifetime "added care plus" ($1500-$1700). Have a couple of reasons:
1) I tend to keep cars way past the sell-by date, last personal car I bought new lasted long enough for a "collector" plate.
2) most common failure in older cars here is the a/c & is $800 to $1k
3) I have a Pentastar.
4) In Florida even "lifetime" is transferrable.
5) Figure with $100 deductable, most of the difference between MaxCare and Added Care Plus is a wash.
6) Inflation will be a game changer before the new car warrenty runs out.

ps check around. I have seen 4x4 just add $150 depending on year and milage.

Agree...My current '05 has had ~$4k in repairs in the past 18 months with ~70k-90k miles...water pump, AC, cylinder in the engine. The $1500-$1700 will be well worth it for me considering I will keep the next Jeep 7+ years as well.

You were given incorrect information by this reseller.

You can also buy warranty directly from Chrysler (not that I recommend it because they seem to charge you much more). Call them and find out what options are available.

Re: Jeep warranty lagging competitors?

Not too concerned considering the low cost of the Chrysler Service Contract warrantys. I've yet to see a premium car brand offer anything close in price. I purchased the 7yr 70k mile Max Care plan with $0 deductible for just around $1200. I don't plan to keep the GC for any longer than 7 years and only drive about 8k miles a year. Great deal for my needs and the peace of mind is well worth it even if I don't use the plan. I also have a great dealership/service department so that is the icing on the cake for me.

Scott, do you have any specifics on this?

For sure, the #1 shortcoming of the Jeep brand is the laggard dealer experience. For decades Chrysler dealers have brought up the rear, and the bankruptcy didn't help as many caring family dealerships were axed in favor of balloons-and-clowns volume outlets.

I'm used to the likes of M-B service, and have a tough time adjusting to the variable bare-bones service at Jeep dealerships even if it's more affordable. Thankfully there are two good outlets in metro Philly -- Bergey's and Videon, both far away -- but the vast majority are the pits.

'cause I don't want to pay an extra grand so you can have a cheaper warranty. I usually get rid of cars before the bumper - bumper expires. If I decide I really like the '14 Jeep I may decide to keep it longer and decide on a warranty. I promise not to ask you to chip in.
