Jiggle over bumps in 2012 Overland

Hello, New here!

I just bought a 2012 GC Overland with the V8 Hemi on Saturday. During the test drive my husband and I didn't notice the jiggle over bumps issue. We bought the car and that of course is when I noticed two distinct shake issues.

One was due to badly balanced tires, and long story short, got that fixed and that shake is not there any more. (Even though one wheel was slightly out of round and one tire was also slightly out of round)

The other I felt was suspension related, (I know zero about the mechanics of cars) The mechanic who balanced the tires noticed the rear shocks were leaking, so we replaced those - and it did help the issue.

However, the jiggle is still there and seems to be mostly the front end. At pretty much any speed, aside from say 30 or under, going over small bumps, potholes, irregularities in the road, what have you, there is what I can only describe as a jiggle. It lasts only a second or so(for the one off bumps), but there are some roads here in CO that have a slight buckle every 10-15 feet or so, and the jiggle becomes continuous and although it doesn't really intensify, it can shake pretty good. The steering wheel doesn't seem to shake much. But I can def feel it by my feet on the floor boards (not the pedals) and in the seats (driver and passenger) If the road is completely smooth the ride feels normal at any speed.

- The mechanic also did a front suspension check (and rear I believe, as a courtesy since he found the shocks) and said that nothing stuck out to him, it all looked solid.

- It has the 20in wheels on it, would that affect it like that? I have heard they give a rougher ride.

I would appreciate any help or insight as I am at a loss. Everything I search for comes up for death wobble and I really don't feel like it is that. It's going to Jeep on the 11th to fix a recalled visor, what would you tell them to also look at?

Congratulations on your jeep & welcome to the forum.
How many miles? Do you have QuadraLift? What kind of tires?

Hey Thanks!

When we bought was 49700 now its just above 50k. Tires are the Goodyear Forteras, three of which are apparently 'bad' but balance fine (and there has been no vibration in that department since they were balanced by myself). In terms of wear they are almost new. I do have the QuadraLift and from what I know of it, it seems to operate smoothly and like it should.

I have kind of zoned in on the shudder a bit more yesterday. First, it happens to both sides. But more so (way more) the right than left. It definitely comes from the front and it really doesn't feel like the rear does the same shudder if I hit a bump with a rear tire exclusively.

I've realized the term for what I am feeling is a shudder, and like I said, a one off bump it will just shudder for a second or so, but if there are many road irregularities, it's constant but never increasing in intensity. Has happened at any speed. It also feels like depressions in the road (man hole covers, dips, even slight) bring on the shudder more so than raised areas/bumps.

-If I push on either side of the front of the car, not much give is there. Plus, the shocks seem to cover the 'big' bumps quite well. And there isn't floaty bounce.

-The bent rim was on the left front at the time the dealer had me balance the tires.

The dealer is having me take it to their preferred mechanic Tuesday, and honestly, I want to believe he has my best interest at heart, but it is likely the other way around (although I still give him the benefit of the doubt) I want to hopefully kind of zone in on a few causes for this so that I know what to tell the mechanic to look for and what to look for after (as the case with the dealer tire balancing, just left the vehicle with worse tire balance)

I am not afraid to poke around in the least, however I don't have any tools to really dig deep.

Steering intermediate shaft could be your problem!

Re: Jiggle over bumps in 2012 Overland

I'm not exactly sure what you mean when you say 3 tires are bad but wear is ok.
I would look at tires for problem, are they original tires? why not just replace them if needed anyway?
This will at least eliminate them as the problem.
