Re: JRNYC's list of Overland Summit Issues.

Thats solvent pop...you can use that term when talking to them about it. Happens sometimes with low quality repaints, solvents offgass in lower paint layers and the gas gets trapped. Its inexcusable in a repaint...let alone an OEM paint job.

Crazy! What was the build date of your truck?

I wonder if this was damaged pre sale, repaired by the dealer and OP bought it unknowingly.

Intersting observation. The door where all of this has happened is kind of askew, There is one spot on the corner of the back quarter panel where it meets the molding that looks like it has been worked,,

Re: JRNYC's list of Overland Summit Issues.

Here is a shot of 3 spots on the hood where the paint looks to have just popped off. Nothing hit the car as I was driving so I believe it to be a defect in the paint similiar to the first pics in the thread.

Re: JRNYC's list of Overland Summit Issues.

The pictures really dont show the condition as much as in person but I snapped a few shots to try and capture the splotchy-ness of the finish on the dashboard leather. You can see it though in the pics below some.

I lokked in side the door jamb today and it says 12-11. I picked it up 4 weeks later it seems on 1/1/12,, I was figuring it might have been an older build but...

Re: JRNYC's list of Overland Summit Issues.

Crap, man, I've got the same truck (purchased about the same time too!), now you're going to make me go over it with a fine-tooth comb!

OEM paint, I've noticed, isn't as great as you'd think, even on ze German cars. Somehow the Koreans are doing it best. My Mazda has a little orange peel, but I think that's from being strapped to a boat and shipped across the ocean; and my Pontiac/Holden G8 had some notoriously thin paint (the driver's side rocker panel was peeling after about 6 months). Again, part of the problem was from the Pacific Ocean. But our GC's were born on this continent, and weren't sitting out for very long.

As far as noises, the worst one in my truck is the high-pitched (practically supersonic) blip when I get in, possibly from the keyless entry/start system activating. And there is a very slight "whunk" occasionally at low speeds and when turning the wheel, I've written it off as a planetary gear in the AWD actuating. Suspension has thankfully been quiet, even the air bags are the quietest I've ever heard (or rather not heard).

In any case, good luck with your issues, hopefully you'll get some acceptable resolution from the dealer.

That doesn't mean something didn't happen ... what's the MDH number on the driver door? Did you order this GC? Or did you find it on the lot?

You have a long list... the paint and door gaps are a concern however I've seen many Jeeps come out of the oven poorly painted and assembled. Back in 2008 about 50% of GCSRT8's were substandard in terms of fit and finish. I've seen saggy rear doors, front fenders that didn't line up on the front door edge, hoods lightly dusted with the color coat, creating holidays.... this list goes on. But that was the year when Chrysler Jeep was shutting down 2nd shifts and going through massive change.

I've also seen a dealer salesman damage the front bumper on a brand new SRT8 that was on the showroom floor... upon return a week later, they repainted that section and did a terrible job on the clear coat. No one would have known unless they witnessed the damage like I did.

Personally, I would never have taken delivery on this vehicle with all the sheet metal gaps hosed up like that - the first thing I check when I order new a vehicle. I think you should take accountability for that....

Moving forward, something tells me you're picking fly shit out of the pepper because you really don't like this vehicle - I wouldn't either, but you need to face the fact you bought it and it's yours now.

I think you need make a case for a buy-back or simply cut your losses and get rid of it.. primarily because you're never going to be happy.
