Re: JRNYC's list of Overland Summit Issues.

I sure hope things work out for you, JRNYC so that you wind up with the Jeep you expected to get. I am amazed at the ever growing list of problems your Jeep presents you and yet you still keep a positive attitude and still want your Jeep. I look forwarding to hearing good things.

Re: JRNYC's list of Overland Summit Issues.

Such Sad news for Jeep....

After another day in the shop ,

The verdict from the "mechanic" is that the suspension is working as designed....

I am actually a little taken back by this. The ride is like riding on rocks with slaps and bumps being the feel of the day.

None of the other things on the list where looked at.

I guess I bump up to the next phase.

So much for my 3500 dollar extended fidelity 7/70 warranty. Ill probably be canceling that as well since getting reimbursed 35 dollars out of the 100 that I spent for an economy rental will not be re-inbursed either.

My cheery outlook is growing thin now. I mean wow. working as designed. Unbelievable.

Re: JRNYC's list of Overland Summit Issues.

Glimmer of hope: real story was a little different than what I was told on the phone,,

My rear hatch latch was replaced so Ill get re-imbursed 35 towards the car rental. Got be happy about recouping 35 of 100 at least.

Rep also said an electronic update was done to my suspension as it came up as an update or something,,

I showed the rep the damages on the dash and moldings and paint etc to which he acknowledged and apologized a few times. Sincere thanks for at least acknowledging that those things where there. I guess the mechanic was too busy to look but I get it,, more important issues in the garage to check on...and the garage and lot where packed. So we will take a ride next and reaffirm the suspension issue to which....

I tested the vehicle back on my favorite route back to work and there was a slight difference after they applied the ASCM update. The car did feel a little stronger or a little more travel before the other condition kicks in where the suspension loses its "absorbtion" quality and gets rougher. Even going over small bumps the tires bounce too many times. Best described by me as a regular suspension with a bad shock where the tire bounces because there is no shock to counter the spring and road conditions.

Even though the process is a little stressful I'm still optimistic that there will be a resolution.

And I still looked good driving it

Re: JRNYC's list of Overland Summit Issues.

I suppose after reading all this I should count myself fortunate that I don't seem to have any issues with my 2011 5.7 Summit. I had a friend that had the exact same vehicle (but without entertainment system) and he ended up selling it after 6 months due to the issues he had. A couple were air suspension "deflating" but fine after starting up and "inflating again" (I question this one since it is a closed loop system from what I understand...if anything leaked it wouldn't "inflate" again afterwards if I understand it correctly), power hatch not working, loud "thud" when shifting from P to D or D to P, and a few other things. Same guy found reasons to get rid of his wifes Infiniti also though too, and now that they have an X5 I suspect they'll find something to complain about to get rid of that one too so I take his experience with a grain of salt.

Yours, however, sounds entirely different. I don't mean to rain on your parade, but I have ZERO confidence in Jeep to resolve your issues. I had a 2004 WJ Limited 4.7, Nav, etc and I brought it in for a heated seat recall. Heated seats never worked after that. Dealer said it wasn't their fault even though they worked fine before the recall and THEY WORKED ON THE PART I COMPLAINED ABOUT. I was told I would have to pay the diagnostic fee and if it turned out to be their fault "we could talk about repair". I complained even louder and they finally looked at it (for free) but told me the tech measured the heat generated with a heat gun and it was just too low for me to feel, but the heated seats WERE working. I gave up at that point and swore I'd NEVER buy another Jeep.

Then I saw the WK2 and compared it to the FX50 I was about to buy...and discovered it had way more goodies on it and was FAR more practical than the FX. So I got the GC. What really swayed me was the near $10K off MSRP and nearly $10K for my (pristine) trade.

I too think that the seat wears a little premature but that might be the nature of the saddle leather? I have the "tick" in the steering wheel, which I understand has a TSB for an intermediate shaft (I think that was what it was) that I plan to have replaced under warranty, and my passenger seat "rattles" (best I can describe it) on bumps if no one is in it and appears, to me, to be coming from the head rest. I also had the quadra lift tell me to bring it in for service, but I think that was from 90lb black lab sleeping on my wifes lap in the passenger seat accidentally hitting the buttons while crusing at 78 on the highway because it's never come back since that one time a year ago.

If you do end up ditching in favor of Infiniti I have nothing but FANTASTIC things to say about them! Wife has a M45x Premium and it is a awesome car, and their sevice is fantastic. No fighting with them for repairs. "Yes sir" is the response we get and we have it serviced at Infiniti exclusively. They found what "could be" a slight leak in a tranny cooler line so they ordered a new line without being asked and are replacing it under warranty. Routine maintenance isn't covered but we've never paid for an oil change. They comp us every time. It's a $66K car (we bought it used though) so I don't see why Jeep can't treat an owner of a $50K+ SUV somewhat similarly.

Anyway, Good luck, keep everyone posted!

My 2005 Land Cruiser rattled when no one was in the back seat ... after numerous trips to the dealer, it was boiled down to the safety latch that holds the tilting rear seat in place - Toyota wouldn't touch it because it was designed that way for "safety" ... U.S. Federal mandate.

There seems to be a misconception that people will get better service the more they pay for a vehicle... WRONG. I got the same level of service with my $65K Land Cruiser, than if I had purchased a Toyota Corolla.

No special provisions for an upscale Toyota owner...

If you want that, you need to buy the Lexus version that comes at a $10K premium... however, I'd rather have that in my back pocket than theirs, because $10K will go a long way if I had to spend it on a rental - assuming you wind up with a problem vehicle.

BTW ... I Lemon Law'd that 2005 Toyota Land Cruiser. I suggest to anyone that spends more time at the dealer, than they do driving their new vehicle... then it's time to rid themselves of the problem. Life is too short to wrap your life around trying to change something that can't be changed. It's my experience you either get a good or bad Jeep - 50/50 proposition.

I have this same issue, sad thing is I didn't notice it while I was on the lot. The first day I washed it, it was cloudy and I was like dammm. But I love the Jeep, so I am not too upset. Anyone else have this issue?

What problems did you have on the Land Cruiser? Must have been a lot more than a rattle...

The welds on the stand-offs in the boxed frame were coming apart. It was causing a popping sound in the front end when I went over speed bumps and turning into driveways, etc. This was designed into the crush zone so Toyota decided they wanted to replace the frame. I wouldn't sign the RO to order a $6,000 frame from Japan so a dealer could disassemble and reassemble my new vehicle in the service bay - imagine that?

Toyota is an arrogant company to deal with... they wouldn't budge. It took the President from Penske Toyota to get them to understand the implications. Toyota USA finally buckled and bought the vehicle back - a two year ordeal.
