Just noticed this on my 2015 GC. Any idea what it is?

So, I just looked closer at my '15 Grand Cherokee and noticed this that looks like a panel or something cut out and replaced. Anybody seen this before or know what this is? It's on both back doors.

That's an overlay to protect the paint from chips from whatever is flung up from your front tires.

Apparently to me. And the film is not what I'm questioning. It's the scratching deep into the paint that I wasn't sure about.

That's the edge of the film after you rubbed dirt into it with your finger. Hopefully you didn't scratch the paint doing that.

Re: Just noticed this on my 2015 GC. Any idea what it is?

Yeah those marks are dents/smears in the protective film caused by rocks picked up by the front tires and thrown back at high speed...mudflaps are the only real protector against that...even then I believe they reduce not eliminate it. My '14 Deep Cherry Red Summit protective film patches looked like they were shotgunned after just one winter from all the salt projectiles directed at it from the front tires. I doubt any punched thru to the paint but it still looks like a bunch of whitish paint chips in the red paint to anyone else.

hehe, the OP Mannas would have a heart attack with all the secret panels that the High Altitude and SRT models have. There are 3 separate cutout panels installed in that same area!!!

My new GC Summit is now covered with "Xpel Ultimate Paint Protection!" Not just some "little" ineffective patches. 10 year warranty too!

Re: Just noticed this on my 2015 GC. Any idea what it is?

You would be hard pressed to find a manufacturer that doesn't apply this type of protective film to some extent. No... It isn't beautiful. But, yes... It does its job protecting paint and body panels. And.... I can't believe it is drawing this much attention, though I do believe that this forum is where those that don't know can and should seek info. What may seem basic to some is worthy of clarification to others. Let's keep our sense of humor and gladly share our knowledge. Being new to Jeep, I have gleaned considerable knowledge from many who generously share.
