Key Fob Being Weird

So i've noticed that both of my key fobs have been acting strange. All the buttons on the fobs do not work sometimes but I am still able to get into my Jeep (I go to open the door handle, Jeep senses key and Jeep unlocks) AND I am still able to start my Jeep normally.

I have been using the same key for the past 25 months since I got it and lately I've been carrying around both fobs to see when each fob works. Does anyone know what could be causing the problem?

I plan on going to the dealership before my new car warranty runs out (I have less than 6K miles left) but I am curious if it is a bigger issue than just the battery might be running out or something. No messages or anything about the fobs come up on the speedometer display.

Have your changed the battery? Two in service years is why I'm asking...

Re: Key Fob Being Weird

I have t tried that yet. I didn't think it was the batteries because my Jeep was still able to detect the keys and the low battery message didn't pop up either.

I buy my batteries in a multi-pack. Two years is a good run; replace them whenever you notice a disruption.

Re: Key Fob Being Weird

I was at the dealer on Friday for an oil change. Apparently there are 3 software flashes for the key fob on my '15. Maybe this is your issue? The guy told me it would take a few hours to do, so I need to drop it off for that.

Re: Key Fob Being Weird

This happens to me when it's really cold out. Seems anytime the temp drops to 15 or below (which has been lately) when I get to my destination the doors will not lock with the key fob. Sometimes it will work if I hit the unlock and then lock on the key fob or if I open the door back up. For now I have been locking it by using the button on the outside door handle. I too thought it was the battery but the remote start works from a far distance and don't have any problems unlocking. I even switched key fobs. Not sure if the Jeep holds the heat so well or what, but it happens ever since the temp has been really cold.

Re: Key Fob Being Weird

On my '12 Overland, the main key fob started acting strange a few months ago. The first clue was a "key fob battery low" warning on the EVIC. Replacing the battery didn't solve the problem. Eventually the lock button stopped working. I ordered a new fob case and rubber pad from amazon because it appeared that the button contacts had fallen off of the original rubber pad. This didn't quite solve the problem but it was slightly better. Then after a routine service visit, the fob suddenly started working again. So, no complaints for the moment. This is at least my 5th car with keyless entry and Jeep has been the only manufacturer thus far to mess it up....

Re: Key Fob Being Weird

Both of my fobs apparently had less then 10% battery left (so the guy said) and luckily they are working again. The dealership I went to (Greenway CJD in Orlando) was not good because they tried charging me for warranty work and they took way too long to do the work and the 2 updates the car needed.
