But still no luck with any of the functions operating remotely so they felt it could be something going on with the receiver on the Jeep itself so I asked the tech if there was anyway that reprogramming the fob would do any good and the tech felt it was definitely worth a try, nice thing is they charge $39 vs. the $79 or more the dealer does so the tech went out to the jeep, plugged in, ran some diagnostics and then came back in and said during the process the fob started working. He was a bit stumped as to what could have caused the change as he hadn't started the re-programming process and hadn't really done anything but my fob is now working fine. The key shop also did not charge me as they said they didn't really fix or program the key. I wanted to pay them for their time as they were very friendly and helpful as can be but they said this was a good will repair and they asked that I remember then next time that I was in need of a locksmiths services.
So good news is the fob is working again but the bad news is I still don't know why it stopped in the first place; go figure...
It's the old saying: if you can't fix it with a hammer, it's an electrical problem.
