My wife's '10 Malbu won't start remotely unless you press the lock button first.
On the wk2's the doors do lock which would present a problem to get in once its running, also you then have to press the start/run button on the dash to drive and without the fob it wont go into full run mode.

Yes, I think the engineers have done a great job with security on the Remote start and keyless entry.
I've verified that the doors do lock, (even if unlocked before), before it starts.
I've also checked that the vehicle can be driven (and parked by an attendant) if I leave the vehicle with a valet and I take the key.

Re: Key Fob - Remote Start Distance Issue

The other day I used the remote start and when I went out to the vehicle the doors were already unlocked. I'll have to check that again. What is meant by "full run mode"? I couldn't find it in the manual.

Update: I tried it again today and the doors did lock. I must have hit the unlock button on the fob the other day.

Re: Key Fob - Remote Start Distance Issue

after remote start you have to get in and press the start button before driving, it shouldn't work without you having the fob in the car.

The doors on the Jeep will lock automaticly if you remote start, and if they did not the Jeep can not be put in to drive unless the fob is present in the cabin. Once it detects the fob and you press the brake and hit the start button, only then can you shift into drive. The Jeep can be driven with out the fob only after these steps have been taken.

Re: Key Fob - Remote Start Distance Issue

that is correct, and although you can drive without the fob the jeep will beep at you and display a message till you turn it off, so even if a thief did steal it once they went crazy and turned it off they would not be able to turn it back on.

That's all true except you don't have to press the brake before hitting the start button.

Re: Key Fob - Remote Start Distance Issue

I think I saw a vehicle comparison somewhere and they tested the range of the FOBs and the Jeep didn't do well. I think it was dead last. I was surprised that my 2012 works from really far off. I haven't found a distance it won't work from yet. Maybe the 2011s don't work from as far? I know it sounds crazy but maybe they changed it for 2012 or late 2011? If not, the range is really inconsistent from vehicle to vehicle.

Re: Key Fob - Remote Start Distance Issue

the older style jeep keys with the remote in the head had horrible range, the newer FOBIK key vehicles like the wk2's have very good range.

I recently purchased a 2011 JGC and I've have had to take it in for service already. The dealership has claimed to have fixed the air suspension issue but the other issue is:
  1. The keyfob during unlock/remote start only works to about 50 feet from the car. The service team ordered new key fobs but they are having the same issue and they can't figure out what the problem is - I've dropped it for service twice already and while they are friendly they are not resolving the issue.
Any thoughts on what could be causing the issue? I've searched the forums and wasn't able to locate anyone experiencing anything similar.

Thanks,

Jess
If the receiver has an antenna cable attached to it (dealer will know) that runs behind the trim inside, they may have to make sure it is run straight and make sure antenna ground strap (if it has one as many do) is connected properly. Very slight adjustments to cable position can make huge gains in operating distances. The antenna is generally hidden behind an interior panel somewhere in the vehicle...sorry dont know where it is in our jeeps.

Re: Key Fob - Remote Start Distance Issue

We are also having this issue with our early build 2011...range only seems to be about 40-50 feet or so. We switched batteries on one of the key fobs but it didn't make any difference. Adding it to the list for the dealer.
