Maybe...maybe not...the police might or might not arrest the vehicle owner after shooting (and possibly killing) the car jacker. At least that's the way I see it from my bodily-threatened perspective.

Depends on state law. Here in Missouri, the vehicle is considered an extension of your dwelling as far as our castle doctrine law is concerned. Somebody tries forcibly entering your car, he's considered bought and paid for, both criminally and civilly. Same as with your house/apartment/condo/hotel room/camping tent.

Re: Key left the car ?

yeah this is very normal. i had a 2009 lexus gs450h and one time i went to eat with a friend, we got to the restaurant and he had forgotten his phone but i had already ordered the food so he took my car to go retrieve his phone not knowing i had the key fob in my pocket, car was running this whole time. when he got there he had shut the car off and then he was stuck there LOL because i was at the restaurant with the key fob in my pocket. i had to cab back there and start the car again.

my 2009 benz cls 63 amg does the same thing, it will run even if you go shopping with the key fob in your pocket.

Re: Key left the car ?

I thought if you drive out of range of the key fob the car shuts off??? That's how the BMW X5 works.

Re: Key left the car ?

That is a bug unless the passenger has a second key in their pocket. If they do not have one it shouldn't give you that message.

No car that I know of works that way. what would happen if your car has an error or remote goes dead when you pull out in front of a car & your car just shuts off, or your in an emergency situation and need to go hospital and you can't go anywhere. LAWSUIT.

True but less than 10% of the general population has a licence to carry and a far less number of those people use their licence to carry SO for the other 97% of the posters on here, their fu**ed

Re: Key left the car ?

@Danco. I was told by a X5 owner that thats how theirs works. I guess I was lied too.
Does anyone know if there is some kind of chime when you drive without a key fob in the car?
