Key not detected failure

I have had 3 failures with the key replaced as a fix - didn't get my $1K in expenses reimbursed - and 1 failure of the new WIN module. I still get the error and the car won't start but it doesn't leave a code so the dealer pretty much asked me to stop wasting their time.

Any others with this problem? I have gone for a lemon law claim but my state allows the Mfr to retain 15% of the sticker price for 'wear and tear'. My GCL has 7K miles on it.

Re: Key not detected failure

Sorry to hear about your troubles

There is a TSB for the issue you are encountering :

Have a different dealership perform the TSB and hopefully your issues are a thing of the past.

Re: Key not detected failure

Rageoffury - my dealer says this TSB does not exist but there is a new one issued 6/15. This from the same service writer who told me I would have fewer problems if I put my owners manual in the bathroom and read it when I take a dump!

Do you know if there is a new TSB on this issue?

Re: Key not detected failure

I believe it is the same TSB. The one issued on June 15th shows fewer affected models than the 08-024-11 TSB issued May 19th originally showed.

Last Wednesday, I experienced total failure of both RKE remotes where the GC would not start or react to any commands from the Remotes. I called my Dealer's Service area who had no ideas but suggested I call Roadside Assistance. They indicated that a Boost was needed, I argued that the Jeep was getting Power as the Doors would lock, the Seats would move and the Rear Tailgate would open when the inside buttons were pushed.

Regardless, we waited 30 minutes for a Tow Truck to come and connect Booster cables all to no avail as the Jeep still would not start (no reaction to Start Button or RKE Remotes).

I then remembered reading in the Jeep Garage Forums that many times disconnecting the Negative Battery Cable would reset the System electronics. Since I didn't have any tools with me I asked the Tow Truck Drive to disconnect the Negative batt cable and sure enough everything reset and I was able to start the Jeep again.

I printed off the http://wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_0802411.pdf and took it to my dealer and he showed me a similar one that had just been released on June 15th. Comparing the two TSB's showed that the June 15th one showed fewer affected vehicles other than that it was identical.

The Dealer reflashed my WIN Module and all has been good so far.

Re: Key not detected failure

I printed the TSB and keep a copy in the car, it has instructions for resetting the WIN module in the field (pull and replace the fuse). I've had no problems so far, but it doesn't hurt to have it along.

Prior to that TSB I carried a 10mm wrench in the glove box to pull the negative battery terminal after this happened to me in my driveway 12 hours after taking delivery of the truck. It's never happened since but I will have the TSB applied the next time I have it in for service.
