Thanks for being his spokesman, but I was asking him. He's quick to say that the possibility of a vehicle stolen in this way is remote, and they'd most likely tow the vehicle, yet using that logic a kill switch wouldn't prevent towing either. There's nothing wrong with wanting to protect your vehicle, but don't say one thing and then do another. Seems to be a trend...

To prevent an inside-job kind of theft by an unscrupulous dealership employee. It happened to one of my customers a few years ago with a Corvette. From what I recall, a tech and a few others were involved in a theft ring and duplicating security keys was an easy way to get what they wanted for sale overseas. This kind of thing is rare, but it can happen and there is substantial overseas demand for vehicles that are not available by legal supply channels. I would surmise it was quicker for them just to drive off and flip the merchandise quickly than to tow and then try getting workable keys.

Yeah, it just goes to show that there are all kinds of scams out there. Insurance is my protection of choice

I will agree. In my list of things to worry about while going through life this is way down there.

Agreed. However, the only thing insurance doesn't prevent is the gross inconvenience of suddenly being without a vehicle when away from home, especially if out-of-state at the time of theft. Every individual has their own level of tolerance toward inconvenience.
