Leaking Front Shock

Discovery I made today while doing maintenance. Looks like the front left shock is leaking and has been for some time. All of the others are completely dry, which is good. Problem is, I just hit 37k miles so just outside of the warranty. Called the dealer and they gave me an 800 number to call to hopefully get it goodwilled.

Any one else have similar issues?

Re: Leaking Front Shock

Had the LF one let go on my previous 2011. There is a TSB on struct/shock weepage, but yours is far beyond that. Good luck on getting them replaced. Hopefully they will eat the cost.

Re: Leaking Front Shock

Talked to Chrysler today and opened up a case with them. Should be hearing back from a case manager tomorrow. Otherwise, I have an appointment next Saturday at a local dealership for them to look it over. We'll see what happens.

I just wish I still had a garage where I could work on the car myself. Can't really pull the car apart in the parking garage where I live now.

It's not a terrible job to swap the strut. Only major tool you would need is a spring compressor...and a dang strong one at that! Haha.

Re: Leaking Front Shock

We'll see what Chrysler says, its only about $100 in parts. I'll see what the dealer wants to change out a strut. If it ends up being more than $100 for labor, which it probably would, I will just change it out myself.

Re: Leaking Front Shock

A quick update for anyone still following along. The dealership inspected the car today, found that the right side is also leaking, not as bad as the left but will be at the same point soon enough if it doesn't get replaced. They ordered two new shocks and will be trying to push it through Chrysler. We'll see what Chrysler says on Monday.
