Re: LED lights in the door panels not turning on

Finally a solution!

I dropped my Jeep off at the dealer last Thursday after they called and said the part the ordered (bulbs and wire harness) came in. Later that day they called and said they got the wrong parts in, couple days later they got new parts in but didn fix it, oh and they dropped the door panel when the parts guy was trying to get the numbers off it so they ordered a new one of those too. Next day thy ordered a new control module.

That brings us to today. Finally got the call that it was done a week, a day, and a door panel later. After talking to the Service writer, the parts manager and the mechanic, it turns out that none of that was even neccesary. The fix was to simply reconfig the TIPM (Total Integrated Power Module).

I mentioned that I was going to post this fix here when I was asking the guys about what fixed it and the service writer said he expected to see a TSB for this issue as soon as it made it's way through the process. No idea how long that is but since the fix is pretty straight forward and doesn't require parts it's probably going to be a easy thing to get the service shop to do. That or just wait for the TSB to hit and it should be even more of a no brainer.

Oh and as if all that was not enough the replacement door panel has a 1/4 inch split in the vinyl and the top rear right by the window so I'll need to bring it back yet again when the replacement for the replacement door panel comes in Uhhg, next time I'm going to let someone else take the guini pig role.

Hope everyone elses gets fixed minus the drama, I'm sure this will help.

BD

Re: LED lights in the door panels not turning on

The lights in my drivers side door where out when I picked it up. I didn't notice until the next evening (I got it during the day). I called the delaer and tried to explain it to them. They didn't even know what I meant by ambient door lighting. They were clueless. So, I had to take it back to the dealer and they took the door apart and realized the module was bad. The wanted to keep my Jeep for a week for the part to come in. I told them to put the door back together and call me.

A week or so later I got a call and a new module went in. Lights are on now.

My biggset frustration to date... the service advisors & techs (at least at the dealership I purchased from) have no idea what is going on with the new JGC and don't understand the features. The service advisor didnt know how to start it! It took one tech 2-hrs to change my wiper blades (improper sized blades were initially installed) - he couldnt find the right one in the parts dept! When i initially purchased the push button start wasn't there. I asked where it was. The salesman's response, "Keyless enter and go means you push the button and the door opens. Its not a push button start." I stared at him with a dumbfounded look and asked for the Manager...

Wow...wow. This kind of brand killing ineptitude must drive the ChryCo suits over the edge.

My nephew works as a junior mechanic at a large shop in Arizona. He's fresh out of school and really loves cars so he takes the time to learn everything, go to whatever seminars are offered and in general try to be the expert on the brands he services. He's young, 22, and didn't realize just how bad some of the "SR" mechanics are. There's a couple at his dealership that either refuse or are incapable of grasping the new computerized components and they had the service manager protecting them since they all came up through the area dealerships together. The Service Manager left and within 2 weeks my nephew was winning all the weekly performance awards. One of these "Sr" guys literally threatened him with physical harm if he didn't start slacking off. He planted a webcam on his tool box and caught this guy and his friend vandalizing it. that afternoon those two were kicked to the curb by the new manager.

Basically what I'm saying is that level of incompetence tends to start at the top. What I do is ask the service manager which one of his techs are comfortable with the new model. Most will tell you right off which guys are the best. Then ask which one is going to get the job and ask to talk to him directly. If he won't do that then walk! I have, many times.

Re: LED lights in the door panels not turning on

Man I hope they get this LED light issue figured out by the time my Overland gets built in a couple months. Yes I know its relatively minor, but its those little things that really help make this new Grand Cherokee special. I LOOOVEE fancy interior lighting at night and these LED's were one of the things I was looking forward to. Hope its just a Laredo thing.

Also, there is an overhead mounted ambient LED as well right? Most newer cars have these but I just wanted to make sure as I remember seeing a little opening on a car I test drove a while back. I assumed that was a ambient mood light correct?

Also, I forgot to add that I have had three different service reps in each of my visits... each of the previous havebeen fired. I also think my salesman was fired. I haven't seen him in there since my purchase, and I have been back numerous times.

Thanks Blackwolf. You really took one for the team.

@mjw930: your story brought to mind an old Yiddish curse,"May apprentice barbers practice on your beard." Maybe it was really meant as a blessing!

Has anyone with limited or overlands had this door led issue? I have not really heard of any problems other than with laredos. Luckily mine work and they are great!

All of my Hemi Overland's systems, features, and overall operation are 100% 5-by-5 so far, including LEDs in the doors.

I can't remember which were missing back when I was checking but I seem to remember a limited that had the issue.
