Left engine running the entire day :(

Parked my car on the street in front of my apt at 7:30 am, on my way back from the gym that same night at 10pm, i notice my tailights are on and the engine is running. This ate up up about half a full tank of gas.

Im pretty sure the car was locked. Is it possible to lock the car from the outside while the engine is still running? Very lucky it wasn't stolen as i live in a very busy part of NYC, but nice neighborhood.

Anything i should be worried about?

Re: Left engine running the entire day :(

I remember a thread like this several years ago. The poster was worried as you are about any damage this may have caused but I don't remember him reporting any. Try searching for this situation.

You can lock it running. If the fob was left in it should pop the driver's door lock. However, some have reported that is not fool proof.

Next time out, give it an Italian tune up, just to clean it out a bit.

yep, you can lock with the remote or by pressing the button on the outside of the door. I do it all the time to run into the store quick (like a gas station)

I see several dodge, Chryslers, and a few nissans ( rentals) at work (wdw) that forget to push the car off and come back to an empty tank, we help out but it is hard to keep up with so many.

Re: Left engine running the entire day :(

I have noticed that I must be very careful to make sure mine is fully in park after several times pushing the button, getting out, locking and then realizing it was still running. Wonder if any have run away on people.

Yeah, I'm somewhat annoyed the JGC doesn't put itself into park when turning it off like my other keyless started car does. It does give a warning on EVIC if you try...I'm sure someone will miss that warning.
