Re: life time warranty

So i called Chrysler today (800-521-9922) and told them i have a buyer for my jeep (i dont but wanted to see this process) and i needed the paperwork for the lifetime warranty transfer. note- i live in NC which according to this website http://www.eservicecontracts.com/
at the very bottom is states (copy and pasted here)

Transfer Policy
*Lifetime Wraps cover ONLY the first vehicle owner/lessee and are NON-TRANSFERABLE except in North Carolina ($50 transfer fee) and Florida ($40 transfer fee).

She (Chrysler rep) said there was no provision in their contract for this transfer, however, i would need to go to my local dealership for detailed information as they're familiar with NC state laws. I'll swing by there at lunch to see what i can dig up and will post here.

Second, from earlier post (Litstluv), there is no way you can buy a LIFETIME maxcare plan with $100 deductible for $1,000 by itself on a Jeep Grand Cherokee. If it is rolled into the purchase of a vehicle then you overpaid for the vehicle. The cost of the plan to the dealer far exceeds $1,000. There is an error somewhere....
Sorry it was $1035. I actually went out to my truck and got the paperwork. Guess I did get lucky.

Got the run around at the dealership. They said since I didn't purchase the warranty in NC it probably would not be honored. I got them to print a copy of my contract which was registered to my vin number.
On the second to last page it specifically says the purchased warranty is NOT transferable to another owner.
Does anyone know someone in Chrysler to contact? The 800 number wasn't helpful and the dealership wasn't helpful either.

Re: life time warranty

I'd contact the NC Insurance Commissioner (NCDO) and see what they have to say.

Looks like they found a way to screw you.

I think it won't be in the actual contract... It is my understanding that it is a state law thing that trumps the contract terms. Basically, you had to live in NC at the time of purchase of the warranty is what will prevail as it doesn't matter who sold it to you...the state law trumps the contract to protect the consumer of that state. So, if you lived in NC as you primary residence when you bought the contract, the NC state law should protect you.

Re: life time warranty

A state law can't trump a contract written in another state.

I'm about to hit 12k miles and I've been looking at the lifetime deal very carefully. It's about $3000 locally and I found it for about $1000 less in another state. The difference appears to be the NC law that requires the local company to allow a single transfer.

Because of this, I've decided to stay with my current warranty.

Re: life time warranty

Does anyone know if you need to do anything specific from a service perspective to "keep" the warranty? Like follow the maintenance recommendations to a T or something?

They sold it to a consumer in NC....that's what counts. Plus the contract is really with Chrysler which does business in that state.... The dealership that writes it up is irrelevant. State law trumps the contract, period.

Then perhaps you could explain why kaflyboy got screwed and why I can't find the same kind of deal with a company based in NC.

First off, if kaflyboy bought the contract as a resident of NC, he will be fine. The dealership that he asked the question to is worthless...like most dealerships they are probably idiots and have no basis to even comment on the warranty since that is between Chrysler and him.

Second, I'm an attorney albeit not practicing and not in NC.

It is not uncommon for a national contract to omit state exceptions since those can change over time. You generally have a contract and state law can modify it for whatever reason....in this case consumer protection.

Re: life time warranty

You might want to double check and make sure it is a lifetime Maximum Care. I believe their cost on is around $1700 so im not sure how that is possible. All those other lifetime powertrain warranties arent worth it. Maximum Care is all you should look into.
