I used to be on this forum all the time when I ordered my summit back in 2011. It's been a wonderful ride but it's time to say goodby.
When I bought the summit I bought the Maxcare lifetime warranty. I live in NC. It's my understand, albeit debatable, the lifetime warranty is transferable to one other owner in the states of Fl and NC?
I've been reading on the forum and there are some people the say yes, others no. Didn't know if anyone has more recent news/ experience with this process. It's worth a few grand on the sale so I want to am,e sure I get it right.
Any info/ direction is appreciated.

Who did you buy your warrantee from? If you bought it online call them, they should be able to tell you how to complete the warrantee transfer. There may be a transfer fee, in FLA it's $40.00, not sure about NC.
I think you misunderstand the transfer requirements; you can transfer your warrantee onetime if you are the original purchaser (from Florida or NC) to anyone you choose, as long as the transfer fee is paid and you complete the paperwork with Chrysler. The new owner does not have to be in FLA or NC to get coverage transferred to them. You have that option when you purchased your original warrantee if you reside in FLA or NC.
I bought it from Wittrock Motors. Found them online when I purcahsed it. When I take the jeep to the local dealership it's valid in "the system" as I had some work done last week under the extended warranty.
So I am the original owner and live in NC. I'm cool with paying the $50 transfer fee I just want to make sure it's legimatly transferable.
Do you (or anyone else) have any supporting documentation or could explain the logistics behind doing the transfer once I find a buyer?
Wouldn't you have a better chance of getting a correct answer by going to the source?

When i entered in my info, i got this result. the last sentence is where i don't know where to go? shouldn't that be under the standard maxcare plan which i purchased?

This is all that's on the Chrysler page.
sorry, picture didn't come through.
i did find this online which was a google search of "Chrysler Max Care Lifetime Warranty"
Also - read your contract. If they set it up CORRECTLY, it will be right there on your contract (on one of the last pages if I recall correctly).
I had bought one online and ... the dealer didn't set mine up correctly (I live in Florida) so I cancelled mine as I was selling within 3 years. But I woulda been beyond pissed had I sold it to someone thinking it was transferable and ended up not being the case...so, you are wise to dot the i and cross the t before listing for sale.
so the bad news is i can't find the actual contract. however, i would imagine it's a standard Chrysler Document and not a document that comes from a random dealer?
No, the contract is customized to some extent depending on your state. You bought your contract from an OUT OF STATE dealership...like I did. Had you bought one from an NC dealership then they should have set it up correctly...out of state dealerships CAN set it up correctly but can also screw it up like what happened to me. Chrysler refused to correct it...my only option was to cancel.
The Lifetime MaxCare plan with $100 deductibe is plan #LWM100N (if factory powertrain warranty is 5year/100,000 miles) for base price of $1900. Since vehicle is 4X4 there is a surcharge of $150 for the total price of $2050. There is another surcharge of $150 when mileage reaches 12,000 miles or when Jeep is over 1year old.
Trust me on this one, you need to see your actual contract. Trust me. If you can not find your actual contract, the selling dealership should be able to email you a pdf of it. Also, call Chrysler to find out how to transfer, if they tell you yours is not transferable, then that could be the start of finding out you have a problem. Fortunately, people in Iowa (where you bought yours right?) are good people and will do what needs to be done to correct the situation or give you money back...unlike the people in Michigan that screwed mine up!
It appears the warranty is NOT transferable. There is nothing in the contract that indicates it's transferable in NC or FL eventhough i do remember people saying it could be transferred in FL and NC.
i live in NC so i would be selling it in NC. Not sure if that matters.
Does anyone have any supporting links/ documentation where there is discussion about warranties being transferred in NC or FL?
Your selling dealer was in Iowa so it is an Iowa contract and Iowa contract law would govern it. I am clueless about NC and FL Attorney General consumer protections about the transferability in this scenario. From all the talk it appears that if selling dealer was in NC/FL it would be transferable.
This is a HUGE point that you need make very clear with the buyer and your attorney. The word WARRANTY should be stricken from the conversations. Your contract is an extended SERVICE CONTRACT, it is NOT an extended WARRANTY CONTRACT. That can make all the difference in the world. The two terms are not interchangeable when dealing with consumer contract law, regardless of state.
and here is the applicable General Statue, I think. It says it has to be transferrable but it also says it doesn't apply to distributors selling them which I think the dealer is....confusing chit!
Its an Iowa contract so their law rules unless its one of those state "mine is bigger than yours" contests like CA pulls all the time. Only a NC Atty can guide u accurately. A recent example, albeit not srvc agreemnt, was the 24 mo expire for gift cards then monthly fees that all national issuers had. Ohio was one of a hand full of states that said "That's a nice thought, but they never expire in Ohio and no fees ever."
I think your issue will b that law may b on your side (Iowa seller knowingly sold to NC resident so must follow NC srvc agree law) BUT how do you get from that high ground to the trenches where u r trying to transact with a local buyer and given them ironclad transfer paperwork. U gotta make sure this sale doesn't come back and bite u.
I think I read about this happening to another member on forum, but I think that one was in FL. I think if I remember correctly when you buy the contract the selling dealer needs to set it up as a contract for that state. I could be wrong but I think its something that needs to be done when you buy it. Maybe the person that had that happen could post something and explain it better?
YES, it is VERY helpful if the selling dealership sets it up correctly for FL and NC residents BEFORE it is issued. Can it be done after the fact? Yes, but a huge huge huge hassle - the consumer protection laws of your state of residence apply here, NOT the laws of the selling dealership's state. Basically, you need to call the Iowa dealership and explain that they sold the contract to a NC resident and THEY need to correct the matter. The good folks in Iowa should step up to the plate and resolve it for you...(unlike the folks in Michigan...gotta get that dig in ONE MORE TIME!). NC state laws apply here as YOU are the consumer...NOT the laws of Iowa...trust me on this one. The Iowa dealership should deal with Chrysler directly to fix for you...my contacts with Chrysler directly were very frustrating as no one knew anything at Chrysler!
Ultimately for me, since I was under 36 months, I cancelled and got a large chunk refunded and called it a day. Was I happy about it, no, but this was the quickest, easiest way to move on with the Michigan dealership's mistake. Could I have pressed the issue and made them correct it, yep, but wasn't worth a couple of hundred dollars to me.

Sorry if what I am typing here was previously said; I don't have time to read the entire thread, but in the state of WA, to my knowledge, the lifetime contract is the only out of all other options of extended service that you cannot transfer. Maybe it is different in other states. Just wanted to point this out.
so i spoke with a guy named Ted at Chrysler today. he said IT IS transferable 1 time in NC for a $50 fee. he said i will have to go to the dealership to get the paperwork completed.
good news thus far. no mention of the state where i bought the warranty or that coming into play.
i'll keep everyone updated as it progresses.
That SOUNDS good....but did he look up YOUR SERVICE CONTRACT and tell you that??? I've been down this road before so...you know...I am a bit skeptical. So, Ted is correct that in NC it is transferable in general...but your contract has to specify it. He probably meant to head down to the Iowa dealership!
I am concerned for you with that thinking. Your actual physical Iowa contract I gave you says you can't. What is your path to getting it done because most buyers will want an ironclad scenario.
Update- I have a buyer for my jeep. going through mopar right now to get transfer "in writing". i've spoken with 5 different reps. All of the first level reps say it is transferable however i'm looking for it in writing. on hold with them now to get this information. once i get it i'll supply you guys the information.
