More importantly, we are local business owners and the dealership we bought the car from sends business our way occasionally. I could have bought the car at Dave Smith in Idaho and saved more money on the warranty, but at the end of the day, we decided to take the hit on the car and the warranty and support a local business here instead.
Alpha,

Fair, enough. I understand from a business perspective if they're throwing business your way in return than I agree there's no use haggling over $200 but not knowing that I don't want to see people spend more than they should. There was a post somewhere on this site that claimed the dealer cost on the $100 deductible lifetime maxcare was $1700. I just had a friend of mine who bought a 2009 Ram 1500 a few months after me and he forgot that I told him about the online dealers' price for the warranty and ended up shelling out over $2800 when the cost online was $1675....ouch!

Stupid question: what info do I need to login to the jeep owners site? I never got anything from Chrysler so I think the dealer got my email address wrong.

Re: Lifetime warranty

You sign up at the jeep owners page yourself. Create an account, then put the VIN number in for your vehicle(s) and the system looks up the vehicle data based on the VIN. As far as I know, the dealer does nothing for you to sign up, nor needs to. There will be a history of anything recorded for that VIN. I found there that the vehicle was delivered without rubber license plate bumpers, which the dealer installed.

The dealer may use the wrong email you gave him to send you spam.

Yeah I went and registered. My quadralift warranty repair was listed there along with some accessories I had them install.

I could care less about spam... Gmail handles that we'll and I can usually unsubscribe from real sales emails.

Thats the dealership where I bought 2011 WK2 here in Illinois. Although when I asked them to price match the ~$2100 lifetime I found online, they said there was no way and just get the warranty from the other dealer (I was talking to one of the finance guys over the phone).

I havent pulled the trigger on a warranty yet so going to get a quote from this site to see what happens. Thanks for the link.. If all goes well and I can get it for under 2k, I will probably be giving the finance guy a call back and mess with him a bit

Re: Lifetime warranty

For what it's worth, got my lifetime maxcare w/$100.00 deductible for $1,850.00 from my dealer, included with the purchase of my Overland.

Re: Lifetime warranty

I just put the application in for the warranty online through chrysler. I am going to pay $2045 like everyone else, 100/ded.. It looks to be that it didnt ask for sales tax online so even if I went to my dealer and got one for 18-1900 I would be paying the same out of pocket. Should get the verification online tomorrow from Chrysler.

Re: Lifetime warranty

Will soon order a 2012.
Still not sure about the lifetime warranty. Generally, have hear warranties like this do not save money.
However, will keep Overland a long time, maybe 10 years.
Also it will be driven much, sometimes under adverse conditions.
The Overland is complex with many new systems. However, it seems Fiat has tried to improve quality.
Does anyone have examples of about how much the lifetime warranty has saved them or not saved them in the past.
Then I can make an informed decision.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Lifetime warranty

On my old '98 ZJ extended warranty more than paid for itself (and it wasn't lifetime, something like 6yrs/72K miles). Can't tell you exact numbers.

Re: Lifetime warranty

Since this is a "new" vehicle, I can only give you my personal experience as it relates to my 1998 Grand Cherokee Limited. Bought a 100,000 mile "bumper to bumper" warranty for $2,300.00 when I purchased the vehicle new in '98. Couple Transmissions, Starters, Water Pumps, Shocks (That's right....even covered the shocks), alternators, and misc. additional things I probably can't even remember. At last count, I figured I'd probably gotten over 7K out of my $2,300.00 purchase. Not too shabby, considering I STILL own and drive the vehicle to this day with 194k currently on the clock.

Needless to say, I went for the $1,850.00 for the Lifetime Maxcare when we bought our Overland a couple months ago.

I bought the MaxCare Warranty without any hesitation. In the past, I've bought extended warranties (out to 7 yrs) both for my '88 BMW M5 and for my 98 JGC. In the case of the M5, I saved over 10k in repair costs - it was a huge win (not surprising for a rare 1st-year model with a high-performance engine.)

For the 98 JGC - I did pretty well, the warranty covered about twice its costs in repairs during the extended period. (Of course I paid up front, whereas the benefits were paid over time.)

If you really plan to keep your Overland 10 years I would think that the warranty is a no-brainer for you. In many ways these warranties are subsidized by people who buy them and then ending up trading the vehicle a lot sooner than planned.
