What deductible? Makes a big difference in price.

Re: Lifetime Warranty Question, LWM110N for 12 Overland

BTW, I put a transmission, AC compressor, radiator, water pump, and a engine computer in the Y2000 JGC in 2008, cost over $4000. A warrantee may have made sense in that case, but I haven't put that kind of money in any other vehicle over the years except for a 1985 Vette.. but those were design defects.. another story. Its insurance against a major problem, and insurance never is a good value.. until you need it or use it. I hear the most financial sound approach is to be self insured.

I'm thinking that as long as Chrysler wants to stay in the warranty business they will not want bad press, and would cover what a typical individual would consider. They have priced the warranty to bring in quite a bit of profit, but as soon they lose interest... or start squeezing dealers for the labor hours, it may be difficult to get service.

Thats a lot lower than what was offered to me. The maxcare lifetime was offered at 2100. Thats why I thought it was too much and passed.

Re: Lifetime Warranty Question, LWM110N for 12 Overland

When I bought my used 2004 Overland with 30k miles at a Honda dealer, I bought an extended warranty by Zurich that was good until 100k miles.

Having owned a 2000 WJ I knew it was probably worth the $2000 price for the warranty.

Turns out that warranty paid out for just about $6000 worth of repairs on my Overland before it hit 100k miles.

In my case I think it was worth it and if I buy another Jeep I will definitely buy another extended warranty, the longest coverage that I can find.

My local Jeep dealer had no problem with the Zurich warranty until the last repair at 99,870 miles. But with photos of the broken manifold bolt sent by the Jeep dealer, they paid the claim.

You may want to check out another warranty provider for comparison. www.driveprotected.com
They have numerous choices for coverage, and you can read their contract if you want.

They are even higher than Maxcare. They want almost 2400 for 5/75000. Maxcare wanted 2100 for lifetime, and another poster got it for 1700.

Without regard to the plan or contract language, I would not consider purchasing a non-manufacturer service plan/warranty. Although any corporation can go bankrupt, we all see that the government will keep the auto makers afloat. I don't see any independent warranty companies getting that special treatment.

Maybe its because they didn't have corporate jets and limo's to take them to Washington to beg for taxpayer funded bailouts.

Wow, 6 grand of repairs in less than 100k miles! They lost money on you. Was any of it drivetrain issues that could be covered under the 100k warranty from the factory?

The front differential (rebuilt twice) would have been drivetrain, but I don't think mine had the 100k mile drivetrain warranty. 36k only if I remember. Mine was built in June of 2003.

Most of my repairs were things like the blend doors, adjustable pedals, power steering, powertrain control module, radiator and so on.

After the warranty expired I had the front diff rebuilt again, this time at a local shop that said that the dealer shop must have got it wrong those two previous rebuilds because it was too tight and wore out too fast.
