Re: Liftgate DAMAGED when using remote

Wow, I never thought the liftgate would have that much "power" to do so much damage.

I am still with others that it could have even been a berry, stick, or acorn that was lodged in the gap and caused the damage when opened. I would see what the dealer has to say about this.
Yeah I agree. I'm off the ice theory. I'm thinking there is a chance the dealer will tell me they found something that belongs to the local car wash I visited. Could a piece of soft cloth get jammed in their? I vowed to use only touchless....UNTIL my Parents gifted me an unlimited pass with a local chain of car washes. Awesome gift...little did they know that same car wash chain ripped two rear wiper blades off my 2005 WK.

I'm done speculating. Once I get an answer I'll let you all know. Thanks for helping me vent..

Re: Liftgate DAMAGED when using remote

i wouldnt be mentioning the car wash to the dealer. they will look for every way to get out from paying for that kind of damage.

and IMO it was some extraneous thing like carwash rag or material.....or the car wash bent something that then caused the damage when you opened it.

Re: Liftgate DAMAGED when using remote

Completely agree with Rob's suggestion above, such is reality.

That said, whether it be water at sub freezing temps, snow and ice, or minor debris from trees or whatnot, the rear hatch gasket and hinge system should be able to deal with these daily occurences with no concern or oversight by the owner/driver.

Sometimes there are minor or perceived grievances aired in the WK2 forum that are a bit overkill. This kind of issue, or water leaks experienced by wk2silverbullet, are potentially serious items that need a real solution.

Hope a good outcome is forthcoming for both Jeef and wk2sb.

Cheers.

Wow, either something got caught up in there or it was a major mechanical malfunction.

Yeah, thanks! I hope you're wrong. I'm ready to find out what they say. I talked to the owner of the dealership today and he was very cool. I trust that he will be fair. They are actually going to pick up my Jeep Monday and leave me a loaner to drive. I live 30 miles away... Pretty cool!

If they do blame me, I sure hope they can tell me how to avoid this from happening again.

Wonder if I can install infared sensors on the roof to tell me if something is up there... lol Maybe I can integrate them into the EVIC!

(I still doubt anything visible was up there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Oh a regular car wash? That is a sweet deal, but they can reck havoc on the paint job. Now that you say that I am really wondering if the brushes may have been to ruff and pushed on the spoiler and caused it to shift out of place....so when you opened the lift gate the jammed and it caused the damage.

Yeah, I'm kinda thinking that too.. The only problem is I had the liftgate glass all the way open the morning this happened and it was 15hrs after the car wash. If the spoiler was out of place I think it would have rubbed.

If the dealer doesn't know what happened I will cancel my unlimited car wash pass for sure! I'd rather use the self serve bays anyway.. I just need a good way to wash salt off the undercarriage and around the skid plates.
