Re: Liftgate DAMAGED when using remote

Here's an update.

I dropped my Jeep off at the dealer this morning, rather than having them pick it up, so I could talk to the dealer and the body shop manager.

These new pictures were taken after they forced the liftgate open several times. A scary sidenote: after they created more damage they told me they had to take pictures to send to Chrysler before they could do anything. "Chrysler needs to determine if they are responsible for the damage." I really wish they would have taken pictures before they made the damage worse. They also told me there is a good chance Chrysler will send some engineers to see the damage so they can figure out what happened. "This could delay the work for a few days".

I did hear one of them say the damage goes all the way to the antenna.

I'm getting a call tomorrow after they hear back from Chrysler.

BTW the Impala I put 300 miles on today was alot of fun...NOT

Re: Liftgate DAMAGED when using remote

Do you have any pictures when the liftgate was open? Closeup and shots that show the entire liftgate up? Any pics from underneath the liftgate when it was up?

I've been following this thread closely. I want to see how Chrysler handles it. (a video clip might be great too!)

Re: Liftgate DAMAGED when using remote

I have look at my hatch trying to come up with some thing. So this is what I found so far. I have noticed with my back window open that I open the hatch manually carefully that you can here the plastic spoiler making noise about 1/4 away opening of hatch from it binding in the top of the hatch. I could not imagine of it be open by automatic actuator the torque of them with out a load controller on them shutting them down with the least of resistance.

Yea why would you open the back window and try open the hatch at the same time. DON'T DO IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But in the real world people get in hurry not thanking or not pay attention (texting on the phone) or some one borrows your jeep and they don't know. I can see it happen

To My Findings that it is a design flaw.. Just MY TWO CENTS WORTH !!!!!
I STILL LOVE MY JEEP

I would be very worried if the lift gate catches while the flipper glass is open also. It is possible to happen by accident with the remote (like posted earlier).

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I would be going ballistic! It sort of puts my troubles with the new WK2 in perspective.
Good luck, I am also curious to see what Chrysler does.
Hope it gets sorted soon and good luck.

so if you are saying that if you mistakenly have the flipper open and hit open with the fob for the liftgate you believe you will have something binding?????

thats not good.......

Yes you will, Of what I see that the spoiler will break then the broken spoiler will get wedge in the back hatch next time it is opened. This is just my opinion on the subject.

Someone should test it at the dealer to confirm!

Sorry I don't. I now wish that I did. It was chaotic when I showed up. I was talking to the dealer while 3 guys started messing with the liftgate. They also took me away to sign some paperwork for the loaner car they gave me.

I took the new pictures just as I was leaving after I noticed the damage was much worse than when I brought it to them. One guy even looked at me and said "it got worse."

I didn't give any of my opinions on what could have happened. I figured it was best to just keep my mouth shut. What blew me away was the first comment I heard was a guy mentioning "maybe it was iced up."

Also the main body shop guy noticed the center of the spoiler was bubbled up. When he pushed it down it would just pop up again. He said it shouldn't be able to do that.

No word yet today. I'll post once I hear from the dealer.

Thanks Dunecrawler. I've followed your troubles also. I hope we both end up happy again.

I don't believe so; I thought that if the liftgate glass was unlatched the gate itself wouldn't raise. I could be wrong, but I thought that was the case.
