Are you sure dead birds didn't fall from the sky, and bounce off creating the damage but leaving no evidence?

Been following silently...like a fart...glad to hear you're getting it fixed! Now tell us all what the body man's "theory" was!

Haha!

OK, been stuck in my Impala all day, sorry for the delay.

Unfortunately the body shop didn't have a definitive cause for the damage. I was told the Spoiler has double paneled plastic. The outside is softer than the inside and it is attached to the glass with 4 screws. He plans on showing me when I pick up my Jeep in about 6 days. He made it sound like two screws are on the left and two screws are on the right. The center of the Spoiler floats, nothing holds it down. He said it was either "raised up", "riding too high" or "too far forward". The spoiler was already pulled out of it's holders so it is hard to say what happened.

I was told it is possible that it was installed wrong on the assembly line or that it could be a bad design. They had to order a new Spoiler and he said it is possible it could have a different design because this is a new model and some designs could change (mine was built in November, so I doubt the Spoiler will have a different design).

I was also told the WK2 has a "powerful hatch". Apparently Trail Blazers have problems similar to what happend to my Jeep, but it's hatch isn't strong enough to cause any damage.

I'm disappointed there isn't a simple answer. I really doubt the new Spoiler will have a design change, but if it does I will post that info.

I should have it back in 6 or 7 days "if all goes well". PLEASE NO SNOW, PLEASE NO SNOW, PLEASE NO SNOW, PLEASE NO SNOW, PLEASE NO SNOW, PLEASE NO SNOW.

Re: Liftgate DAMAGED when using remote

Today is day 16 since the damage and the 8th day driving an Impala aprox 200-300 miles per day.

The roads are covered in snow and I want all you to know that the difference between an Impala and a Jeep in snow is simple. One is Stressful & one is FUN!

I'm the guy that's always in a good mood, now I'm basically pissed all day. This is what I've learned: When my WK2 has 250,000 miles and I get a new Jeep, I'll be keeping the WK2 as a back up, rather than trading it in. I'd be very happy driving my 05 WK with 258,000 miles right now.

Sorry to whine.. I just F'ing hate this Impala

BTW I was so happy with my new rig I overlooked the 430n/730n debacle, but now I'm pissed over it. Before I placed my order I had the salesperson verify I would get the 730n with the Sirius Traffic. 5 minutes later "Yes, that is standard with the Overland". Of course I get the 430n. To make it worse, when using an Ipod & the center console music cuts out and I hear random crackling. I showed this to the service tech & he advised me to use the HDD.

Now I'm going to fight for a new NAV.

GIVE ME BACK MY JEEP!

I'm not fluid with Body Shop lingo, so I'm not able to translate. I think it means by this time next week.

I've been waiting so long I almost checked Milous's New Build Status Thread out of habit.

Re: Liftgate DAMAGED when using remote

I picked up my Jeep tonight.

The body shop manager showed me the damaged spoiler and gave me his best guess on what happened.

Check out the picture, I tried to describe what he showed me.

I'm back to my original theory. I think water collected in the Spoiler and froze the next day while I was parked in 20 degree weather. I think it's possible the Spoiler didn't have a perfect plastic "weld" or "seam" and water collected inside the inner and outer plastic. I think the ice raised the center of the Spoiler just enough to bind and the hatch is so powerful it caused tremendous damage.

I'd bet my left n.. leg that I didn't place anything on the roof, and I can't see how something fell up there and stayed while I drove 80mph for an hour.

The body shop manager also mentioned Chrysler didn't hesitate at all to fix the damage. I got the impression this isn't always the case.

As far as the repair job goes...I'm pretty sure I saw some imperfections. The Spoiler needed to be painted and where the rubber seal meets the Spoiler it may not be perfect. I think I saw a paint imperfection and the rubber seal isn't exactly straight. Maybe over time it will straighten out. I could be wrong but the roof may have had a slight warp on one side. I'll have to take a good look in daylight. I also want to park it next to another Jeep and compare the two. I'm sure in a few weeks I won't care, but right now I'm slightly annoyed.
I do think the body shop manager does great work. He has 35yrs experience, and I know he was very careful with my Jeep. I'm not upset with him or the dealer or even Chrysler. This stuff happens.

This is my 6th Jeep and I will be getting #7 at some point.

THANK YOU CHRYSLER FOR TAKING CARE OF THIS! However I really want to sell this beast and start over...

Now I need some advice please. Instead of the new car with leather smell, my interior reaks of paint fumes. I drove a few miles with the a/c off because I didn't want to get the paint fumes in my air filters, but my windows fogged up so I had to turn it on. It was snowing so putting the windows down wasn't a great option. I could be wrong, but I thought there were filters inside the dash that were never replaced.
Should I care about that? Do I need to leave the a/c off? Is it too late, did I already taint the filters by runnning the air for 40min.? Am I parinoid? Is there a good way to clear the air?

I want my new leather smell to greet me when I get in my Jeep. Instead I'm having flashbacks to my glue sniffing days....
