Re: Liftgate DAMAGED when using remote

For the smell, find an auto detail shop in your area that can do an interior Ozone treatment. That will remove ALL smells and give the Jeep that "new car smell". BTW, that new car smell is actually the fresh plastics outgassing but that's a whole different topic

I also agree, don't be shy about comparing your repaired jeep to ones on the lot and insisting they correct any flaws. Properly done the repair should be undetectable.

Actually, in the Overlands, I think it's the Napa leather.

Glad to hear you got her back, JEEF.

Could just be the driver outgassing too.

I wouldn't worry about the paint fumes; they'll go away fairly quickly. I've had fumes in every vehicle that required paint work.

Great idea! I'll be doing that asap! tks! I've also heard the carpet has chemicals that also give the new car smell. I've read we should crack the windows for the first couple days. I just want to smell leather again.

I guess I can get away with outgassing for a couple days. SBD's here we go!

Thanks everybody!

Re: Liftgate DAMAGED when using remote

Glad to hear Jeef, I'd be livid and paranoid as well under the circumstances. Hope you get to go out and enjoy it now.

Your instinct on the cause sounds plausible given how close the spoiler tucks down and into the roof lid. Is that the dealer's theory as well?

Thanks moosehead! I missed out on some good snow days, but all is good now.
I didn't talk to the dealer himself after the work was done, but the body shop manager said this theory was his best guess. I waited until after he gave me his theory before I told him I took it through a car wash 24hrs before the damage. He said that confirms his suspicon.

Re: Liftgate DAMAGED when using remote

I'll bet the first time you pressed the lift gate open button once you got it back was a character building experience.

Nope, Hammered out and filler. Obviously they took the entire liftgate off.

I haven't had a chance for a better inspection, but at first glance It doesn't look perfect. I need to wash it before I can get a good look. The edge where the rubber seal connects to the spoiler the paint isn't very smooth and the rubber seal is wavy.

There could be a slight warp on the roof. It could have been the light. I'll be inspecting better this weekend after a wash.

I'll post some pics and my conclusion.

I did sneak a peek at the invoice the dealer was sending Chrysler. It was aprox $1900. Our cost would be much higher of course. I don't know how much the Spoiler cost or if that was even on the invoice.
