Re: Liftgate DAMAGED when using remote

I can report there is SIGNIFICANTLY LESS WATER streaming down the window from the spoiler after I go through a car wash now that I have a new spoiler.
The first car wash I went through I couldn't believe how much water streamed down the window even an hour after the wash. It required a window cleaning the next day because it was soapy water and it left annoying dried water lines. I don't have that problem nearly as bad now. That tells me the old spoiler probably collected more water than normal.

Re: Liftgate DAMAGED when using remote

Update:

Unhappy to report I have water leaking inside the flipper glass after I go through a car wash.

I'm over the imperfections I saw with the repair job, I'm not going to insist they redo the work. Mainly because I don't want to give up my Jeep for another week.

Now that I'm obsesed with my Spoiler and Liftgate I've noticed something interesting. I'm sure it's just Physics but I've noticed the Spoiler is different when it's cold compared to when it's warm.

After I pull in the garage on a very cold day you can see how the Spoiler is "dropped down" or "not flush" with the roof.

If I wait a couple hours and go look again the Spoiler has "raised up" or "is flush" with the roof.

Hopefully you can see what I'm saying with my pics. I'm sure everybody's Spoiler does the same... Take a look next cold day after you get home.

Also, maybe you can see how the right side of my roof is different than the left side..

BTW I'm starting the process of ordering a new WK2. The liftgate damage, the shuddering, new rattling from the plastic separating the two pieces of glass for the sunroof, and the wrong Nav have me upset enough to start all over.

I'm still a Jeep lover. If none of my issues are ever fixed I'd still rather drive my WK2 over all other vehicles. I really can't think of another SUV I'd rather drive. I did drive a 2011 BMW X5 turbo diesel all weekend, BUT I still love the WK2 more. The BMW was very sweet, but I would never take it off road. Plus IMO no other off road vehicle can compete with Jeep.

Sooo don't hate me for complaining about my current WK2. I just want one without problems. My new car experience has totally sucked!

JEFF, it is totally understandable how you feel. Hopefully your dealer will take care of you on the new order price wise.

Every time I hit the button to open my lift-gate I think about your experience.

Good luck.

Re: Liftgate DAMAGED when using remote

That sucks.

I would guess you are correct in suggesting all jeeps in warm to cold or cold to warm will have a similar issue.
Maybe Jeep will be able to come with an easy fix- new material? but that will take time.

I think all here appreciate you coming forward with this problem giving everyone a heads up on what to look for.
Seems like you have a case for lemon law (depends on state). It appears to me that fix is unacceptable. Can you imagine what that spoiler will look like in a couple years?

Re: Liftgate DAMAGED when using remote

I'm confused this is not a trouble shooting issue.
Does anyone else wonder why this tread has been moved to trouble shooting?

Re: Liftgate DAMAGED when using remote

JEEF - Take it back to the dealer. Whatever they fixed was done right. I appears that the spoiler was not properly installed. Seriously, this is repairable ... albeit very regrettable ... have them give you a loaner and make sure their best mechanic works on it. There is no way the spoiler is supposed to move up and down like that at all. Best wishes. Dan

Thanks IndyBob! Can't wait to find out how much I've depreciated this sucker in 2 months. Maybe I'll change my mind...

Thanks!

I'm afraid of what it will look like in a couple years also. My plan was to drive this Jeep for 5yrs/250,000 miles. I can't jinx myself now the damage already occured, but I've had zero body damage with my last 4 Grand Cherokee's. Now this in less than 2 months. Plus I use the liftgate several times a day, and that kinda sucks now.

Thanks Dan! I'm going in the morning to see what they say about the water leak and the Spoiler moving. I'll bring my pictures. The dealer did put their best guy on it, but there is no doubt my WK2 is the first one he has touched. O' well. I still enjoyed driving it all day today
