Locked In

Just picked up my 2011 Overland and had a potentially dangerous situation. I had my parents in the back seat and was unable to open the rear doors to allow them to exit. At 92 and 97 years old, crawling over the back seat and exiting via the rear hatch wasn't an option. I tried everything to unlock their doors and had no success. The latch bolt on the door panel would go up and down correctly, but they were unable to exit the vehicle and I was unable to opent the doors from the outside even though the doors were visually unlocked. I finally opend the rear hatch and slammed it manually and believe it or not I was able to open their doors from the outside. This again an hour later and I slammed the hatch again and It once again enabled the doors to open. Ihave tried to replicate the problem but have been unsussefull.
This situation deeply concerns me since this could be very dangerous if people are unable to physically open the doors when they are unlocked.

Re: Locked In

Yes, they were/are unlocked. I thought about them, but they should always let you open from the outside. I think!?

Re: Locked In

That seems like a very unusual problem....I would take it to the dealer asap

Re: Locked In

I took it to two different dealerships today and they all looked at me with glazed look over their eyes. I called Chrysler and they opened a case on the issue and said how concerned they were about the new 2011 owners satisifation level. Said someone would call me, didn't happen yet. Thought I would see if they call in the next day or two and hopefully they will have some information that can be relayed to the dealer.

Re: Locked In

Can you recreate this again? Next time, if you think about it, take a video with your phone to document the problem.

As far as taking it to different dealers, why not just take it to the dealer you purchased it from and be very adamant that they listen to your concerns. (the last thing they want is a new '11 JGC owner complaining in their showroom)

Keep us posted!

Re: Locked In

The Jeep dealer I purchased the vehicle from is not conveniently located to my home or place of work. I had a rather heated discussion with Jeep Corporate and they got on the phone with a dealer who is very close to where I work and explained my situation to them. Corporate said they offer the dealerships assistance with new vehicle concerns that they may have problems with through a department called Star Centers. The dealership is suppose to contact Star Centers if they have problems with any issues. The vehicle is at the dealer as I write this and I'm deaply concerned that the problem will be replicated and fixed.
