Re: Long extended crank & no start FIXED!!

Will have to study a bit (CJF will not sell an owner a wiring diagram which makes it difficult) but an injector signal should be developed in the PCM not the TIPM though it may be passing through.

Re: Long extended crank & no start FIXED!!

I have been in the same boat since July.. Shows all the symptoms described. Not starting.. rough start, pump running after truck being off for 6 hours and draining the battery. They said the battery was shot along with the TIMP module. Module was covered under my extended warranty but battery was not. They would gladly sell me a battery for $$475.00 (so expensive because of Gel composition fume less) I found it for $195.00 (same original battery). They also told me that if I used anything other than the original mopar battery it would void my extended warranty plan.

TIPM was supposed to be released by chrysler on Aug 12, then Aug 22, then Aug 29, Then Sept 26, then Sept 12th and this morning I called and now they say there is no date in sight because it is a vendor problem.. They are covering my rental because it was part of my extended service plan. I WAN
MY TRUCK BACK. I am now asking them to take a part off a new GC to make mine operational...

We'll see how it goes.. just wanted to share with everyone here.. (my first post)

Exclamation Re: Long extended crank & no start FIXED!!

my small contribution to this F..... problem!

My WK2 5.7L 2012 limited and my customer´s WK2 5.7L 2011 limited BOTH HAVE NO START - LONG CRANK - STALL AFTER START UP conditions

Diagnostic: TIPM IS DAMAGED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND REPROGRAMMED...

10-15 day delivery - MOPAR-DEALER needs the damaged part in order to supply the "new" unprogramed part

chief mechanic just inforfmed of a ¨campaign¨ issued by Chsysler-Jeep to install a seconday relay control for the fuel pump activation-deactivation

is anyone informed - aware of this potential solution

not sure to go with solution alternative leaving the original tipm and going the secondary relay ????

Re: Long extended crank & no start FIXED!!

Experienced a similar issue. Leaving metlife stadium (JETlife Stadium) this passed sunday came out to my Jeep and nothing. Fob didn't work nor manually using the key. Assumed at first it was the battery. Got a jump from a neighboring vehicle with no luck. Long story short had to have my Jeep towed from NJ to NY to bring it to my mechanic (not a fan of the stealership). My mechanic told me the same as everyone else that the TIPM went bad and it is a know issue with Jeeps 2011-2013. The bad news was the part is backordered and there is a 150 day wait period (what Chrysler isn't telling anyone on a wait list is that once the part becomes available there is some crazy wait period after that)

In doing my own research I found a few companies that can rebuild the TIPM only leaving the vehicle out of commission for about a week.

I have an extreme amount of confidence in my mechanic who offered to rebuild the unit on his own to see if it would work. I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND JUST ANY MECHANIC TO DO THIS WITHOUT HAVING A CHRYSLER BACKROUND.

SUCCESS!!!!! Dropped my jeep off on Sunday night and picked it up this morning with the rebuilt TIPM. Runs fine with no signs of the issue.

My mechanic cannot guarantee that this wont happen again but for now my Jeep works until a replacement becomes available (I am still on the waiting list)

For those of you having this issue feel free to PM me for more info.

Good luck to all and I hope for this to be resolved for everyone sooner rather than later.

PS - I work in the aftermarket auto industry and from I know of in the northeast there are over 150+ Jeeps down with this issue. Chrysler MUST do something about this fast and it should be considered a recall.

One more thing to call out someone above mentioned Allen Samuels out in TX. I personally do a ton of business with them and they are absolutely awesome Kudos to them for getting some credit here.

Re: Long extended crank & no start FIXED!!

I have a 2011 cherokee with the same issues of a bad TIPIM (not always starting, fuel pump constantly running). My dealership said the fix is to bypass the relay for the fuel pump which is built into the TIPIM. Basically install a secondary relay like the previous poster mentioned. I'm going to do this next week, since I have to because TIPIMs are not available at the moment. Meanwhile I just pull the fuse to stop the fuel pump when I hear it running.

But this is a lot less expensive and they said this is Chrysler-Jeeps fix for the problem. Theoretically it should work, since all your doing is bypassing a faulty relay to an externally installed one outside the TIPIM.

We'll see!

Dan

Re: Long extended crank & no start FIXED!!

Any updates on this besides the bypass? I have a 2011 5.7 and I've experienced the extended crank problem 3 times over the last 6 months, 25k miles. 1 month out of factory warranty. Uggg.

Running great. No problems with starting up anymore since the bypass.

Had the same problem 2 months ago with my 2011 5.7 but it eventually got worse and the car was really difficult to start, would start then die, or only remote start sometimes. TIPM was bad (fuel pump relay in it). Car has 50k on it, so well out of warranty. Dealer said $1200 to replace tipm or install the fuel relay bypass kit for half that. I started a case with Chrysler because I believe these tipm issues are widespread and warrant some type of recall. Without much going back and forth they agreed to cover half the cost of the tipm parts and labor. They obviously know this is a major issue with these cars, so getting Chrysler involved is definitely worth it. Also, Chrysler first tried to push the fuel pump relay bypass kit and I refused it. Bypassing a faulty part that is this important to the vehicle is a band-aid, not a solution.

Re: Long extended crank & no start FIXED!!

a) see post 23. I would have no problem with the secondary relay as a temporary solution while waiting for the TIPM. Number of complaints makes me wonder if the TIPM relay was properly sized and an external replacable one would be a better idea.
b) anyone have the instruction sheet for adding the relay ?
c) I would not use a lead acid battery in my WK2 since under the seat (am slowly converting everything to AGM) but so long as an AGM of the proper size it should not matter who it comes from
