Re: Long extended crank & no start FIXED!!

Just an FYI there is a class action law suite against Chrysler/Jeep for the TIPM to be replaced. It is not just the jeeps it is all Chrysler cars and trucks: Durango's, c300's, Jeep's, chargers. That is the reason for the long back order.

Re: Long extended crank & no start FIXED!!

The extended start issue has found it's way to my Jeep. The problem has occurred three or four times in the past week. Guess I'll bring it to the dealer and see what they say.

Re: Long extended crank & no start FIXED!!

So I spoke with the dealer today and they told me that they no longer replace the TIPM but it is now just a kit due to when they did replace them that the problem would come back in 30-40k miles??? Has anybody bought this "kit"????

Re: Long extended crank & no start FIXED!!

Brought my 2011 JGC to the dealer yesterday and they were able to replicate the extended start issue and installed the bypass relay. The same issue as others have posted in that the fuel pump is not always being engaged so the vehicle would not turn over - hence the extended start.

Fortunately the repair was covered under warranty so we'll see if the relay fix holds up.

Re: Long extended crank & no start FIXED!!

Hey everyone, I have a 2011 5.7 Hemi Grand Cherokee and experienced the same issue....would go through the starting cycle but not turn over. I bought it new and it now has 46,000 miles on it. Based on what I've read on the forums, I was concerned that the Jeep dealership would play a guessing game and start changing parts (starter, fuel pump, expensive TIPM, etc.) because it seems as if the fix is all over the map. Similar to some of the other comments here, I talked to a strong tech that specialized in diagnostics and drive-ability issues and he told me that the FUEL PUMP RELAY is the problem and that simply pulling out the relay from the TIPM and replacing it will not resolve the issue. He stated that he would wire / splice in a new relay because apparently, that particular wiring and section of the TIPM is faulty. He also told me that many Jeep dealerships simply try and replace the entire TIPM which we all know is expensive. Bottom line, I had the fix done; I was charged $69.97 for the parts and two hours labor ($192.00) and I believe that this tech got it right and knew what he was talking about. One week later and many intentional starts and no problems whatsoever. Attached are several photos that show the external rfuel pump relay being spliced into the wiring harness and wired directly to the battery. Good luck to all that are having this problem!

Re: Long extended crank & no start FIXED!!

Looks like I've joined the long crank club. It happened once about 6-9 months ago and I just passed it off as a glitch. In the past couple of days it's done it about 3 times. On the second try it starts and runs OK but I'll be visiting the stealership soon to get it looked at before it gets worse as well as take care of a couple of recall issues. I've got 90K on the Penstastar and have the lifetime warranty.
