Loop on seatbelt?? What for?

Several passengers have asked why there is a loop on the lap belt portion of the passengers seatbelt. What is the purpose of this loop? The drivers belt doesn't have one.....

Re: Loop on seatbelt?? What for?

After an accident, if that loop rips out, you need to replace seat belts and possibly the seat belt mechanism.

At least that's what I have always been told.

Re: Loop on seatbelt?? What for?

I believe it is to stop the seat belt buckle from rattling against the side pillar.

The drivers side doesn't have one because the drivers side is always (or should be) buckled up if the vehicle is driving.

Forget what I said. I took a closer look today and the doctor is correct. They also keep the buckle from sliding all the way down on the belt. The drivers belt has a small piece of material sewn in for that.

Thanks Doc!

Haha. I saw this today for the first time and then quickly forgot about it, but also wondered what it was for...

Then I log in here, and first topic! LOL! Thanks!
