Lots of Problems

Hey all,

Since I bought my Overland, it has just had problem after problem. Fuel pump, Water pump, idler pulley, spark plug o-rings, alignment always out of whack (possibly because of mechanics, so maybe not from poor engineering), and tons of recalls. I take good care of the vehicle, but still the paint on the wheels is bubbling up and 2 wheel center caps have popped off due to some corrosion. Even after my fuel pump was fixed, sometimes still the engine will crank but will only start after several attempts.

Jeep Grand Cherokees are very nice looking inside and out, drive comfortably, and have a lot of nice features. Hemi is pretty quick, and handling isn't bad for an SUV.

But holy crap, I don't know about everyone else, my Jeep is so poorly made it drives me nuts. The quality is horrendous. This was my first Chrysler product, and will be my last once my warranty expires.

I just wanted to rant and was curious to see if anyone else shared my feelings.

EDIT: I almost forgot. My rearview mirror fell off, and water leaks in through the windshield when it rains.

I was just wondering if this was new or something a previous owner could have beat the crap out of.

In three years in the hands of someone who didn't take care of it, the wheels could have been subjected to salt water, the windshield could have been replaced, it could have hit something that screwed up the suspension making it impossible to hold an alignment.

I'm not saying these things happened, but those problems on a three year old car doesn't conjure up the same image as on a new one.

i cant attest to the build quality of the 2011s as i have never driven one but my 2015 overlands build quality at least to me is very good if not excellent. even my wife who is a car snob and wouldnt drive anything that wasnt german is impressed with it.

My 2015 GC Limited is both my first Jeep, as well as my first SUV. With respect to build quality, I was impressed, but at the same time, was disappointed that the wheel alignment was "off" initially. However, with respect to wheel alignment on a brand new car, my wife's $80,000 Jaguar was "mis-aligned, too.......

My 2015 GC Altitude I'm mixed about after

1. Steering shimmy and it's sensitively to every little bump

2 Rattles and some unknown shifting sound in drivers door pillar

3.Push button fell into dash

All in 11,000 miles this was my first and last not what I expected.

After just 600 miles a rock hit my windshield and cracked it. I had to get replacement and the technician at Safelite showed me that after he removed the broken windshield there was not enough adhesive applied originally. It would have leaked eventually and it was a mixed blessing that I had to get a replacement.

I believe my 2015 is built well. Aside from it needing an alignment instantly.

I live down a treacherous dirt road. Nothing rattles yet. Now how long will it stay that way?.. I don't know.

I have had several vehicles that have had leaks, rattles, other issues since new and my dirt road to my house really brings those out in the car. So far my GC is doing amongst the best. But time does tell. Overall though I have always found the WK2 to be solid feeling.

I think quality in general in the automotive world has slipped regardless of brand. Certainly FCA has its share (or more) of this malady. Some examples I personally aware of:

My 2015 JGC was down for 52 days after being driven all of 1100 km in a 7 day period. Defective wiring harness was the final diagnosis.

Friend of mine bought a 2014 Ford Escape. Has had 2 wheel seals replaced + major recall for faulty wiring (potential fire hazard)

My boss got a 2015 Acura MDX. Just got out of the shop after a major recall involving faulty modules leading to sudden shutdown of car with no warning

Another friend got a 2015 Buick Enclave. Last I heard was still in the shop due to major transmission failure.

These are just incidents I have personal knowledge of....god knows how many more there are with multiple brands. So what car...make and/or model should we consider that are going to be immune to these issues? I honestly believe its the parts involved which are the culprits, and a lot of the manufacturers use the same vendors as their source. Lets also bear in mind some of these same parts are now imports from plants out of country...not so sure their quality standards are up to par with USA or Canada produced. We know their wages are a lot less, so it may be a case of "you get what you pay for"
