Loud knock and jerk when shifting the transmission Into park

So I pulls wk2 into my garage and go from drive into reverse and I hear a loud knock and jerk of the transmission shifting. I back up a bit to get it lined up go from reverse to drive with no knock or jerk, put it back into reverse and same issue and then from reverse to park.

I've never owned a vehicle that had this much of a violent kick and loud too. I'm on a flat smooth concrete surface when I really notice this in an enclosed garage.

Is this normal? Should it kick so loudly and so violently?

Re: Loud knock and jerk when shifting the transmission Into park

This would only usually be expected when parked on a hill without the park brake engaged or if your engine is over revving / fast idle. I take it your foot is not resting on the accelerator when shifting into gear?

If you're on level ground and it's doing it, I'd be getting it looked at asap.

I had a little more noise when shifting to reverse and park than I thought was normal. Checked the tranny fluid, topped it off and I haven't had any issues since. ATF4 from your local auto parts store if you are low

This is becoming more common. This was just posted, Transmission clunks when shifting to park Take it to your dealer, I'm curious to hear what they say. Mine told me it's "known problem, no fix" and just documented it.

This issue will be addressed via an upcoming TSB. It will cover the 2012 Grand Cherokee and Durango. Scheduled release date for the bulletin is June 4, 2012.

so does this mean that there is no fix to the problem until the tsb is released? assuming my dealership's service department is filled with morons.

Please post the TSB when available. I'm getting the hard shift/clunk when car is on slight incline and I shift into neutral or park.

Re: Loud knock and jerk when shifting the transmission Into park

I noticed it for the first time yesterday. I had never gone from neutral before but I can duplicate it everytime if I stop in neutral. I don't get it going straight from park to drive and visa versa.
