Low transmission fluid?
I have a 2012 WK2 Hemi, with 19,200 miles.
I checked my transmission fluid level today: got the temperature up to 190 F, parked on a level surface, placed the selector level in all positions for a few seconds with the parking brake on, left the engine running, and checked the level.
It was a bit low, below the lower "HOT" hole by about 1/2 of the distance between the two HOT holes, maybe a bit more. The level was just above the twist in the dipstick.
1) Did I check the fluid level correctly?
2) Is this a sign of something wrong with the transmission, e.g. a leak, or was it just improperly filled at the factory? My previous cars had manual transmissions and did not have transmission fluid dipsticks, so I've never had to worry about this.
3) Could the transmission have been damaged by operating with a low fluid level for this long?
Some time ago I checked the fluid level while it was cold, and it was fine (slightly over the top COLD hole, actually - this makes me suspect this is not an exact science).
The fluid color looked fine, and I have not noticed anything obvious wrong with the transmission.
