Yeah the mesh is REALLY loud. I have been thinking of getting a sunroof air deflector or something. The mesh concept doesn't work well at all.

The mesh pops up everytime you open the normal single pane sunroof. It is extremely loud. When you lower the net at speed lower then 50 mph you will get buffering. I have a bug shield so the air deflection might be different but at higher speeds around 70 mph with the mesh down you don't receive any buffering.

Re: Lowering the mesh net in sunroof

I've had both single and now pano, it was on both. I can't believe how loud this makes having the glass open. As I've said, it confused me because no other vehicle I've ever had ever had anything that popped up, including two other model JGC's.

Re: Lowering the mesh net in sunroof

I drive with the roof open all of the time weather permitting. The other day I didn't know the mesh was causing a bug massacre when I was cruising down the highway...I closed the roof that evening when I got home and the next day when I opened the roof...all these dead bugs suddently fell into the jeep...on my head...all over the seats and everything. I almost crashed...and doo dooed my pants. I'm talking like 50 dead bugs...all the same...just dried up.

Nasty!

Is there a way to keep the mesh netting down short of holding it with your hand or taping it?
I was wondering if there was a way to do the same. It's really, really loud on the freeway. However, I think they designed it so that the air flow is interrupted so that air will flow into the cabin and not just over. As you probably know, though, it's really too loud to use when traveling long distances. I guess that's why they have the vent option.

Re: Lowering the mesh net in sunroof

The open sun roof is only practical at speeds below 40. After that the noise is not worth it. I use the vent option and the noise is bearable at high speeds. Most of the time it remains closed.

Mongoose9400 is an unknown quantity at this point
It's just spring steel holding the windscreen up. When the sunroof moves rearward the spring steel pops open into its full up position. When the sunroof closes it pushes the spring steel and windscreen back down. I haven't taken a look up in the roof, but I'm sure there is someway to ziptie/tape/etc the windscreen down. I actually don't think it's loud at all at high speed, but I'm cranking my music and cruising.

Re: Lowering the mesh net in sunroof

I actually reached up and pulled it back down with my hand, it seemed to react ok. I then started wondering what would the system do if I just took it off. I haven't had the chance to look and see if I think it's possible.

Re: Lowering the mesh net in sunroof

I hate the mesh screen, looks ugly and makes wind noise. This is my first Jeep with a sunroof. I just hope I don't have any leak issues as some have had.

Re: Lowering the mesh net in sunroof

I never realized how much Noise that mesh adds!

I also remembered that my old vehicle, a Limited 2005 Toyota 4Runner, had a wind dam that lowered automatically once the vehicle speed rose above 45Mph. It's a darn shame this same kind of functionality isn't available on our newer WK2s.
