Lucky me! FCA Called "Stop drive" recall...

Apparently im one of the lucky ones that got the urgent call and was told to immediately stop driving my 2015 Altitude 4x4 for the rear suspension (not properly heat treated) issue/recall. Looks like they are sending a service inspector to my work location to verify whether I truly have what they believe me to have and if so, they will flat bed away my 400 mile new Jeep. Le sigh.

Guess ill know in the next couple hours if I get the joy of driving one of their elite Dodge Dart Or Jeep Patriot rentals.

The bad news is that more than 7,700 of those vehicles are being recalled because some of them may suffer from serious suspension problems. According to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles:
"The SUVs, assembled earlier this month, are being recalled because they may have been inadvertently equipped with improperly heat-treated suspension components. This condition, which was not apparent during the assembly process, could lead to component breakage, rear-end instability and/or reduced braking power."
Of the total number of vehicles recalled, 65 appear to be in the most danger. FCA is contacting the owners of those SUVS and advising them to stop driving the vehicles immediately.

Re: Lucky me! FCA Called "Stop drive" recall...

Im going to test the limits of FCA carelessness here.

1st of all, my VIN which they knew was affected sat on a dealers lot for 9 days before I bought it. It was an additional 15 days before they called me, yesterday morning. They told me to "stop driving the vehicle immediately" and said they would have the local dealer contact me within a couple hours to come over and inspect it and flatbed it away if necessary. In the meantime, I verified on my own I have the time/date stamp that requires immediate replacement.

its been 31hrs since FCA called me and told me to not drive my brand new 400 mile old Jeep and no sign of them or the local dealer trying to reach me.

Yes...I know I could, and should just call and follow up. But considering the severity of the issue and the fact that I have a 3rd vehicle, I simply want to see when I may actually be reached out to again.

It is amazing how many people (you are not alone) would let something fester, to have something to rant about, than pick up the phone.

But, their are probably more people who call every 10 minutes under the misguided assumption that they are the most important person on earth.

I hope I live long enough to see the day when car companies improve the quality to the point that all these recalls are unnecessary. Or, at least until they learn to handle them with minimum impact on the customer.

I take that back, I really don't want to live that long.

ranting isnt really my goal here, although I seem to have already ranted away...

Had I not had a 3rd vehicle handy, of course I would be on the phone blowing them up. I consider this more of a case of "seeing how good their customer service is" before I get their "are you satisfied jeep survey".

I'm sorry you've gotten hung up in this recall. I'll assume at this point you are dealing with a local dealer as the go between at this point. Since that would likely be the place it will be towed to.. So my question is, your are testing the level of care and respect for your safety with an hourly employee that's overworked to begin with and an intellect that may parallel a telephone pole? I promise you you will win and lose this battle at the same time. Call them and get your beautiful jeep fixed instead of looking for a reason to add to your own stress level. I am on your side to a degree but when you poke a lion it will respond just like you expect it to, unless you don't know, car dealers are busy and absent minded and manufacturers are slow to react and have poor support to their dealers sometimes. Be happy Chryco even tightened the bolts in the control arms this time..

Re: Lucky me! FCA Called "Stop drive" recall...

FCA care is bullshit. Since they couldnt be bothered with contacting me, or even calling the right dealer (they finally called a dealer 60 miles from me, even though there were 6 other choices one of which was 2miles away) I had roadside bring it in.

Two days prior, I sent the service advisor there pics of my date stamps on the LCAs so he knew I was effected and was to make sure the parts were in house ready to go. NOPE. I get there, and they say, well we need to inspect it 1st and then if it is deemed part of the recall we will order parts while we keep your Jeep. Even though he already said I was effected and thanked me for the pics. So now im being told ill probably have the Jeep back by the end of the week.

So, between FCAs lack of communication, poor dealer interaction, and of course some of my own hot-headedness...im without my brand new jeep for a total of 10-12 days. Cool!

I really think that in cases like that where they keep a car for 1, 2 weeks or more to fix it they should be required to pay appropriate portion of my lease / finance payment.
