Guess i will try to make it happen again then take it back.

I just checked oil level, it's fine...
I know its tough to reproduce, but I had a similar issue with my 2006 Commander and started to record all my start ups on my iPhone. I finally nailed it twice and it was helpful in figuring out my Jeep issues. The dealer took the truck in for two days made some adjustments and changes and "knock on Wood" I have had no issues.

Sure. Trust me if this works then you will know. I have been putting up with this since October 2011.

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust

IF these parts cure the problem, which I hope it does, I would like to think that Chrysler installs the updated parts to the hemi engines going into the 2014's, BUT I doubt it. We'll see IF I'm wrong. I hope I am.

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust

Wow, just read the majority of this thread! Guess I will have to park nose up today and see whats up. I would expect that there will be a service bulletin out soon if the fix is available. I'm not exactly sure why a tray would contribute to this smoking thing though.
For those that asked a page or two back what these parts are:
A windage tray is a plate that resides below the crankshaft at the top of the oil pan. Among other things, it helps reduce parasitic losses as the crank spins around in the void where the oil pan and bottom of the engine meet. In this pic the engine is upside down. The tray is installed between the bottom of the engine block and the oil pan. Different designs bolt on different ways. The little snorkle thing is the oil pick- up

Here is the oil pan installed

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust

The fix includes a new oil pan and a new windage tray. I believe the main problem here is the oil pan. The sump is forward on the hemi and when parked on a incline with the front up, the oil collects in the rear of the engine. This is the shallow part of the pan. The oil is now around the bottom of the rear two pistons. After sitting this oil seeps past the rings and some gets into the combustion chamber. This is why it only smokes on startup. I believe the new design will include a deeper pan in the rear area which will stop the oil from contacting the rear piston rings. The windage tray might need to be replaced due to the new design of the oil pan.

I expect to get mine replaced in a couple of weeks so I will know more then. I talked to the mechanic that will be doing mine and he said its a big job. He said that the whole front driveline needs to be dropped to get to the pan. I just hope this is soon going to be behind me. This has been going on for over a year and a half.

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust

Have been following this thread for the last month or so. Our 2012 will smoke at startup with only a couple of degrees nose up when parked. Definately at 5 degrees with 10-15 degrees providing a pretty good smoke screen. Local dealer in Grand Junction, CO "looking into it", but hasn't a clue. Hopefully the TSB will be released soon. Thanks to all that have been running interference for us.

I've had the smoke at startup problem since day 2 of ownership. In the first few months after I purchased the Jeep, I took it to the dealer several times to fix the problem and they changed the PCV valve but, as everyone here already knows, it didn't work. I spoke to Jeep Customer Assistance several times to let them know how displeased I was to have huge clouds of smoke coming out of my brand new vehicle. They finally let on that they were working on the problem and a fix would be coming out at some point. My dealer told me to check back with them periodically to see if the fix was out. I haven't pursued the issue since then. Instead, I've been following this forum to see if anyone successfully gets it repaired.

Fast forward seven months, out of the blue I got a call today from Chrysler customer service letting me know that the parts to fix the smoking problem had been manufactured (which I already knew from following this thread) and were ordered for my vehicle, and my dealer's service advisor (she referred to him by name) would call me when the parts arrived. She apologized for this fix taking so long to come out. I wasn't expecting this at all. What a pleasant surprise. Hope it works.

Got the same call yesterday. I already knew about it because I have been working with my dealer with this issue. I expect to get the "parts are in" call any day now. Its been a long road and I hope it will soon be behind me.

My 2013 does this as well. I will wait to see if the fix solves it before I bother bringing it in.

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust

Just did my 1st oil change and installed the catch can. No more smoke at startup. Same parking spot, slopped with nose up. Time will tell if it comes back.

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust

Just got the call from my dealer letting me know the new updated oil pan and windage tray are in. I have scheduled my Jeep to have the parts replaced next Thursday. Hopefully this will resolve the "blue smoke" issue that's been going on for over a year now. Actually kind of embarrassing to have that much smoke come out of a vehicle with less that 15k miles.
