Perhaps if those guys that had smoking Hemi's siphoned out some oil, their Hemi's would stop smoking? Worth a try, pull out half a quart of oil and see if your engine stops smoking on an incline.
I was told that anywhere within the hatched area is OK. If you go below that, they have the word "ADD". You don't want to go above the "FULL" mark to prevent smoking and airation of the oil. In my situation my "new" full mark is just above the word "ADD".

Yup understood. My advice was directed at those folks that have not had the new windage tray and new oil pan installed that you have. Perhaps those frustrated owners could remove some engine oil and see if the smoking stops - at least temporarily until they get the call to have the new oil pan and windage tray installed.

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust

Chrysler should still supply a new dipstick. They should be taking responsibility for setting where the oil level should fall on the dipstick, not us, their customers. It would also serve as a confirmation that the seven quarts of oil is still the correct amount to service the rig with. Plus I don't want to have to always be worried that some mechanic or servicing person overfills based on an inaccurate dipstick.

I'm still waiting to hear from the dealership about their diagnostics. Love having the videos of the smoking to show them so they have no excuse for a "could not duplicate".

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust

Once the new pan is installed the only issue the old dipstick can cause is the oil will be at the same level in the block causing the smoke issue.

Hence, negating the whole purpose of the fix. The reason for "add" and "full" markings is so the operator knows that the oil level is correct for proper operation in all conditions.

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust

HELP !!!! Just got a call from the dealership and they told me that Chrysler says this is normal startup condensation (HA). And there is no TSB to be found. Talked to the service manager and he is going to further pursue my issue with Chrysler. What he said would help, would be the part numbers of the new oil pan and windage tray.

So maybe anyone who has had the fix completed could get those numbers for me. PM or reply post here would be great. And a dealership name and/or service manager's name, maybe. Or some form of a satisfactory starting point.

peckmv ??? Anyone??? Thanks.

My jeep goes in Wednesday for this fix so I can let you know after I get it back (unless peckmv answers you first).

Appreciate that. Who's your dealer and service rep or service manager?

Sorry, I don't have the part numbers. The dealer is Jones Junction. The number is 410-879-6400. The Jeep service manager is Joe Sweitzer. He is very familiar with this issue. HTH.

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust

Thanks for the reply. Will make sure I give that info to the dealership. Got the part number, Chrysler # 68207352AA, from AKHLK on Wednesday. Picked the rig up on Friday after two weeks at the dealership. Since the service manager had talked with a Regional manager and a Star manager I figured they had at least run the tests to rule out other possible causes. Nope nary a one. They want to wait to do anything else till a supposedly forthcoming flash. Whether to be done in conjunction with the new pan or maybe as a solution, they didn't know. So rather than having ruled out the other possibilities, they expect me to drive two cars 120 miles at least two more times instead of just coming in for the parts install. Par for the course unfortunately for this dealership. Not the first time they've dropped the ball on service.

Called another dealership two hours the other way and they want to give it a shot, but will at least have their ducks lined up prior to us driving there. Also much more open to giving credence to videos showing the smoke. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Part of the problem for all of us is that there still is no TSB in the system and I'm told the parts are in short supply or backordered.
