Because Chrysler refuses to admit it is a problem. I have to prove to them its a problem and pinpoint where the cause might be. My time is precious to me and I don't want to be running from dealer to dealer, only to be told that they "couldn't reproduce the problem" or "its normal".

I agree, I prefer to walk into the dealer having done some level of investigative trouble shooting so I can better explain the problem and better explain what is likely not causing the problem. But I certainly agree that my approach should not be necessary if you have a full warranty and competent dealer.

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust

Porsche boxsters did the same thing upon sitting. Intermittent blue smoke out tail pipe. Likely Air oil separator (aos) Never impacted quality or longevity of my Boxster. Had several aos replaced. Original design with Porsche was terrible as sometimes these systems would fail and then oil would get into intake producing huge clouds of smoke. Often we could find sellers who thought their motors were blown selling boxsters for pennies on dollar when all it needed was $100 part.

My JGC v6 has over 2500 miles and no hint of smoke yet. I park it on incline too.

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust

^^ is the boxster a "boxer engine"? i.e. horizontally opposed? That is a flat layout like the 911 and my old K75 BMW motorcycle. .. The later well known for oil seeping past the rings and smoking at start-up (especially on the side stand)... And also well known for running forever. Mine was like new at 65K miles.

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust

Posted this before but lets revisit it sense someone else brought it up. AOS on Hemi's Suck and this is a known fact. Again I will ask has anyone had this problem that has installed a catch can?

this guy said the catch can did not fix the problem. Now, I'm not sure how the catch can is plumbed or the quality of the catch can.

To answer your question....

The catch can is plumbed in series with the PCV valve and the intake manifold. The can itself is made by Billet Technology. (link below) Its a high quality item and it does catch a good bit of oil. My biggest concern is the oil fouling the cats. The sad thing is the problem is still there.

I have the same catch can! Costs a bit more than some but it's very good.

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust

From the last posts i can see somewaying..."I was gonna get the catchcan but now i have my doubts since it will not fix the smoke issue ?? " ....Maybe we need to clarify the design intent of the catch can in my opinion catch can would help us protect the electronic throttle body from oil blowby from the deficient pcv design, this in turn will make engine running better, no oil deposits in the intake manifold, cleaner combustion, etc.. That being said HOW TO FIX THE SMOKE ON THE EXHAUST WHEN MY JEEP SITS OR IS PARKED IN A DRIVEWAY WITH SOME ANGLE OR DECLINE?

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust

2011 JGC Overland Hemi w/ 5500m on the clock- This happened to me 2x in last month, both times parked and idling on incline for 5-10min. Brought it to dealership after first time, they said it was the sticker on the exhaust burning off, I disagreed but left after they could not reproduce it. Yesterday my 8mon pregnant wife and I stopped at a starbucks, she went in to use the ladies room and I stayed outside in the car, when she came out I put the car in reverse, looked in the mirror and noticed the huge plume of white/blue smoke, I got out grabbed my phone and took a video. after puling out and 2 minutes it stopped. there is definitely something wrong here, a new car shouldnt do this. I also have had my first oil change at 3k. I didnt pay 43k for a car thats going to spew smoke out the tailpipe because Im parked on an angle, who knows what longterm affect this will have on the engine. I have been a faithful jeep drive for 20 years(all wranglers) but this will change my tune quickly if they cant give me a straight answer tomorrow when I bring it in.

so in your case, you didn't even shut off the jeep? was it parked on an incline too?
