Re: Major smoke out of exhaust

....OK, some or a lot of smoke. Any one at all have an actual mechanical failure after seeing this smoke or not?... Just asking... I understand you all are upset, and I'm not trying to poke you. I'm just wondering if there is any reason for concern other than general embarrassment when your new luxury SUV smokes like the 1993 sunbird next to it...

My main concern is that its loading up the catalyc converter with oil deposits and causing an early failure of the cats. They aren't cheap.

Are you guys using 0w-30? If so, maybe you should try 5w-40.

With the hemi you have to use 5w20. Other weights will not work with the MDS system.

I find that hard to believe, but it brings me to another point. I wonder if the smoking issue is related to the mds itself, would be good to try and disable it to test.

I believe driving it in "Tow" mode doesn't allow the MDS to operate.

This is true. Two weeks ago when I pulled out of the boat ramp in tow mode the entire ramp was washed with a cloud of oil burning smoke. Gotta a lot of looks from my fellow boaters. All I said was that its a Chrysler.

Should it matter?? whether I spend 15k on a new car or 45k on a new car. New cars come with a "bumper to bumper" warranty against manufacturer defects, and I consider this to be a manufacturer defect. We as taxpayers gave GM and Chrysler BILLIONS of dollars to bail them out of their fiscal irresponsibilites and we supported the US automotive industry by buying their product, and now they won't honor the very warranty that is supposed to protect the people that helped them??

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust

We lent them billions, we didnt give it to them, because our banks wouldn lend it to them because they were too busy being safe with our money...

A lot of smoke is a defect. I get that. But I just wonder who has had a mechanical failure thereafter, that's all.

It reminds me of all the "ticking" engine threads.

But I realize that as my engine doesnt smoke anymore that its easy for me to say...

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust

Had this happen a few times with my v6. I think it is linked to just after a wash or driving in the rain.. White smoke just on startup..

I get you. The smoke coming out of my jeep is what I would call excessive. Needless to say, chrysler has agreed to a collateral swap, supposedly next week. its an MSRP to MSRP swapout so I will have to pay the difference between the MSRP of mine(45,520) and the 2012(46,260) but its worth it to put this behind me.

Why would you want to recreate the problem? Idling at a severe angle probably caused oil to splash into the bottoms of some cylinders.
You have a warranty if there is really a problem with the engine, but it doesn't cover abuse.
