Re: Missing cover over oil filter

The factory filter is rediculously tight!! I had to get one of the mechanical metal removal tools, that have three metal arms that clamp as you turn the wratchet. Also mind the filter gasket, it did not come off with the filter and would let the new oil blow right out if you didn't notice and installed the new one.

Re: Missing cover over oil filter

The part number for the belly pan that is covered is: 68091772AA. This is NOT for the V8's according to the tech. The V8's need that access area to be able to reach some of the engine. (I didn't ask for what, sorry.)

As I stated before, what looks like a "door/access cover" that would latch is actually molded into the pan and does not open or move.

He wasn't sure why some V6's have the open access area and why some don't.

Thanks. I have a feeling that part number is for that entire front belly pan because it also fits all 2012's GC's.

Anyway, those would be the #(but I haven't checked what the difference is);
68091772AA BELLY PAN. Front. . [ERB]. $38.70 (ERB=3.6)
68037063AD BELLY PAN. Front. . [EX0], [EXF]. $111.00 (EXF=3.0 Diesel)
55079191AD BELLY PAN. Front. . [EZH]. $41.00 (EZH=5.7)

While I don't like this opening, it's just a dirt collector, I probably bolt a plastic piece in. Definitly cheaper than 38 bucks. As nobody sees it, easy fix ;-).

Good to see that my research wasn't that wrong

That was my thought as well; no seperate cover, just a one piece with the closed opening. For the V8, the opening is probably just stamped out.
I think, they used what ever was available during the assembling. The delay for not having the right part is probably more expensive then just put one 'similar' in. And it doesn't hurt either.
