Missing Jack Parts??

Rainy day so I decided to crawl under my new GC as well as check out the jack and spare tire. Glad I got the off road package because of the full size spare tire. Jack holder is very flimsy styrofoam so not impressed. It looks like I am missing the plastic thing that goes over the jack. Manual shows one but does not mention it directly. Am I the only one missing this part? Without it seems like you could do some damage on your paint when you start lifting the vehicle. Thanks.

Re: Missing Jack Parts??

I think I am finding the anwer to my own question by scouring the web. Looks like it came with most 2011 models but is missing on 2012 models. The part number I am talking about is 68058614AB. It is basically a cap you put on top of the jack to keep it from digging into your paint. Something that pertains to me because I will be rotating my own tires and for now it looks like the factory jack is all that I can because my large jack would just tear up the pinch welds.

Re: Missing Jack Parts??

I would only use the OEM jack if I had to. They are not designed to be used regularly and you should just use a proper trolley jack. Use a block of wood on the jacking plate to protect your car and you should be sweet.
I find the long reach alloy race jacks and a cordless impact driver makes changing wheels a breeze.

Re: Missing Jack Parts??

Your right about the OEM jack, very flimsy and suprised it would hold up for long. The jack I currently have does not have the option of putting on the pinch weld adaptor but may invest in a bottle jack that can.

Re: Missing Jack Parts??

Most floor jacks have the removable plate, if you are mechanically minded you can take the original plate off and make a Manufacture one that will drop in the hole and swivel around.

Re: Missing Jack Parts??

just cut a grove in a piece of wood, or use 2 narrower bits with a gap.

Re: Missing Jack Parts??

Thanks for the idea's guys, probably will try adapting a piece of wood. Got some oak 4x4's laying around that should hold the weight better than pine. I'm still going to order the plastic cap when I order some other items (oem cargo mat, possibly a bud deflector. I'm also going to order another styrofoam holder because mine is already falling apart. Have any of you guys ever ordered from factorymoparparts.com? They seem to have the best prices but website is very generic so kind of on the fence with them.

Is it missing or did Jeep intentionally remove it? I haven't researched this yet. If it's missing, then Jeep owes you the part. If it's intentional then they've decided it's not needed. To jack up the vehicle in a emergency why would we need to micky rigg someting? Maybe it's only me who is confused here.

Re: Missing Jack Parts??

I'm not sure if it is missing or omitted for 2012 models. The plastic cap goes on top of the jack where it meets the metal of the vehicle and prevents damage. Without the cap the metal would just did into the paint and eventually will cause rust.

Re: Missing Jack Parts??

It appears Jeep omitted the plastic jack cap from 2012 models intentionally, maybe to save costs? They also deleted the window roll down, and rear hatch glass unlock features from the 2012 key fobs. Not really sure why?

Re: Missing Jack Parts??

Funny thing is that if you look on page 96 of the 2012 owners user guide (hard copy) you will see the plastic cap in the jack parts picture. It is the yellow piece in the lower left section of the jack parts holder. You will also see them mention it on Jeeps video (youtube) that shows you how to change a flat. The downloaded 2012 users manual does not show the plastic cap in the parts picture so who knows.
