Re: MUST READ 2014 Jeep GC Forward Collision \ Adjustable Cruise Control Failure

I had the issue in the video.

I had the BRAKE issue right before I had the ACC error - and disabling. Had it 2 days prior.

Dealer and chrysler found 4x4 module needed to be replaced.

Once they did so - all was normal.

Was the BREAK issue related? They said yes - as the 4x4 module is tied to ACC/FCW -- I had those lights on for a month before I fixed it with the 4x4 module.

I felt all the brakes engaging in ABS mode -- hard break with rumble (ABS applying)... a car was maybe 5 car lengths away and I was going 30 getting ready to turn left into a store.

same thing here - i was rolling off accelerator -- the whole caar started vibrating - i thought something hit me - then the beep and BRAKE BRAKE BRAKE and teh car slowed - felt like ABS breaking...

Re: MUST READ 2014 Jeep GC Forward Collision \ Adjustable Cruise Control Failure

Hello,

After the Radar unit was replaced this fixed the issue with the warning message shown in the video. I did get this message though when setting the cruise control and then immediately pressing the button to increase speed a few times..

its blurry because i was driving, I was able to get this to repeat a couple times by doing the same thing but now it has stopped. I will keep you posted.

Re: MUST READ 2014 Jeep GC Forward Collision \ Adjustable Cruise Control Failure

After a couple months I activated the "Forward Collision Warning Active Braking" option in Settings and have had 3 instances of Visual "Brake" warning with immediate braking (so hard that the ABS also activated); sure got my attention!
The first instance I was not paying attention and was glad it activated. The second two times; I was coasting up to an intersection and could see that the vehicle in front was starting to accelerate; so I anticipated that I wouldn't have to brake; the sensor ruled out my decision not to brake (on the safe side I guess). It was semi-annoying but better safe than sorry.

Yes, I have notice that the radar must take into acount the speed odf the car in front of you and your speed. The time I had the warning and brake I had my foot on the gas and the car in front of me was slowing to turn.

Hi 655321,

Was this issue ever resolved by the dealer? if so, can you share their findings? I'm having the same problem as you on my '14 Overland.

many thanks,
Nick

Only time the ACC warning came on is driving on highway with salt/slime covered car in winter. Cleaned sensor and all was fine.

Did apply the brake once on the highway - a deer ran in front while I was doing a fast clip. I think I hit the deer with my pee that was scared from me.

Re: MUST READ 2014 Jeep GC Forward Collision \ Adjustable Cruise Control Failure

As reported elsewhere on this website (meaning in other threads), there are many more of us experiencing this. I have determined that some cars have some elements in common, including but not limited to:
  • early build (spring 2013) as a 2014 model year [mine is an April 2013 build]
  • seemingly normal, reliable operation until one point
  • error codes started appearing at around 9,000 - 10,000 miles [for me it started at 9,800 miles]
  • Jeep techs cannot diagnose it in house, there are no error messages stored
  • more likely to happen at highway speeds (55-70 mph) than at city speeds (25-35 mph
Here's 2 other recent threads regarding the sensor:

Front ACC radar looks off?

Issues with ACC

When the weather will warm up, I will look into the alignment issue, previously thought to cause problems as well as attempting to clean the inside of the protective lens cover (of condensation I suspect). And if funds allow, replace the ABS Control Module with a newer variant and attempt to enable ACC with STOP.

Forward Collision Warning (FCW) With Mitigation
Operation
The Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system with
mitigation provides the driver with audible warnings,
visual warnings (within the EVIC), and may apply a
brake jerk to warn the driver when it detects a potential
frontal collision. The warnings and limited braking are
intended to provide the driver with enough time to react,
avoid or mitigate the potential collision.

FCW monitors the information from the forward looking
sensor as well as the Electronic Brake Controller (EBC), to
calculate a probable forward collision. When the system
determines that a forward collision is probable, an audible
and visual warning message will be displayed
within the EVIC along with a brake jerk warning. When
the system senses the driver applying the brakes to avoid
a probable collision, additional braking force will be
provided to the vehicle.
Oh I see. It uses the brakes to alert the driver but not actually attempt an emergency stop.

I am having the exact same problem. Get the error message to clean and cannot get it to reset. Me dealer told me there is a worldwide shortage on the sensor and it is very difficult to calibrate once installed. I am going back tomorrow to continue the fight.

Mine (a May build) will apply the brakes and do more than a jerk. However, once the speed drops below around 15-20, the rest of the stop is up to you to do manually. The automatic braking and aural warning give you time to react to complete the job.

Re: MUST READ 2014 Jeep GC Forward Collision \ Adjustable Cruise Control Failure

For the past couple of days, I have been trying to document problems with my ACC. Here's something that now happens at high speed (as opposed to ACC/FCW disabling itself due to an allegedly dirty sensor).

Only at high speeds 55 mph+, I get the BRAKE visual warning plus sound in the absence of any car in front of me. The last second of the video actually captures a clear lane ahead of me. The phone had reached maximum SD card capacity, having previously recoded more of the same.
